Yeah the stock stamps are what really sold me on it. There’s a decent gouge just under the sling keeper around the wrist on the right side. Might be from shrapnel as it has a distinct pattern to it versus just a falling on a harp rock or something.

Honest used rifles like this are underrated, these are the true warhorses that actually saw service rather than some rack queen that sat in a depot for the conflict. Really like the walnut stock on this one, hopefully I can come across an honest matching example like yours one day. Congrats on picking up an early G33/40!
 
Interesting it’s one piece of walnut, versus spliced. Wish we had a data set of wood type, and stock construction (1,2, or 3 piece) by SN & year.

My super early example (sn 719) has the “Japanese splice”.
