Deutsches Sportmodell value?

I am well aware the rabbit hole this question is. I collect targets opportunity rather than anything specific, which naturally precludes most German stuff of this era due to pricing, fake stampings and level of very specific knowledge for any given rifle or handgun that can affect prices drastically.
However, I did see yesterday a Duetches Sportmodell, for $700 or $800, I cannot recall since it was not what I was primarily interested. Due to no small part in what I recall Simpson wanting for German trainers, I can't help but be a bit tempted. I REALLY don't know much about these, but just from general knowledge, I didn't see anything I would recognize as a military proof, and it had a commercial Mauser banner. So that would preclude anything that would fetch those very high prices. In terms of condition, it looked very good. I wasn't aware at the time what it was, but I did see there was some sort of break near the sling slot, which I thought odd since I assumed it would just take a standard German style sling in terms of set up, albeit smaller. But after looking further afterwards, it does seem like it is missing the teardrop retainer for the sling.
Given both of these factors, safe to say it's probably on the very low end, but from looking online, it's a bit hard to determine what that is. For example, I see https://truegunvalue.com/ and there is one selling a week ago, commercial banner and it's $1200, and the week before, there's another that's $585.

Do you have any more pictures?

Simpsons is a terrible reference, you will never get anywhere near the prices they ask.

Realistic selling price for a very good to excellent complete correct matching numbers Mauser DSM is $800-$1200.

There are lots of DSM that are unsold in the $1000-$1200+ range.

Just that one, I wasn't considering buying it at the time so I just snapped that one to look a bit more into it out of curiosity as I do with any oddities I find. Though after handling it, I would say I am in the market for one in the future if I found one at a favorable price. I wanted a CZ 452 a long time ago but with all the design changes it isn't really the same now and I was quite impressed with this so it might be fun as a novelty that is also a collectors piece.

I agree with FAL Grunt. You shouldn't use Simpsons as a price guide. They set most of their German WW2 trainer prices at "how bad do you want it?" levels. Most of their current German trainers have been available on their website for years.

Fal Grunt's pricing estimate is quite accurate. I have maybe a dozen DSM34s, KKWs, and other period German .22s (Mauser, Walther, etc). I typically expect to see a selling price around 600-800 +- for these (that actually sell) but of course my NSDAP, SA, and HJ regional marked rifles were typically over the $1 mark. Any sporterization, modification, or stock sanding will adversely affect value just like any other German military rifle. They are fine shooters.

This year I added 2 DSM34s to the collection.
One a DSM34 and the 2nd an elm stock DSM36, and both in 95% condition.
The early one cost me 700 and the later one about 950 with auction fees.
The later one was purchased at an online auction and the hammer was around 800.

Any matching DSM in excellent condtion under 1K to me is a bargain.

I agree with Bruce. Mauser made the most hence they are the most common. But, the quality is probably the highest and all the major parts are stamped with ser # like a k98k. This appeals to most folks.

There are two distinct ranges for MO that are marked for the SS. 20k range and I think 30k range these are mentioned in Speed's book. This would add alot of value and typically sell in the 2-3k range.

There are other SA marks more sporadic, and this would add value based off the type of marking.

Thank you for the information thus far.
What would be the most common trainers to be found, DSM, then KKW? Are there any other notable designs one might run into aside those two? Is there any major notable differences between the DSM "34" and "36" or was it just minor iterative improvements?

Check the dsm34/dsm36 thread at the beginning of this section that bob in ohio wrote it explains the difference in the two designs
