Gustloff sporter restoration

Picked up this sporterized 1940 Gustloff K98 (code 337) in late March and asked y’all for opinions on it in this thread: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/gustloff-337-1940-sporter-restoration-worthy.66975/

Spent yesterday restoring it to a military configuration. Barrel, receiver, bolt (all components including the firing pin), front sight, and trigger guard have matching numbers. Bands, rear sight, floor plate (may have been an old armorer’s replacement) and stock do not have matching numbers. Bore has strong rifling and visible frosting. I plugged the Lyman sight mounting holes and those are partially covered by the stock. I found the bands and a rear sight assembly at Old Steel Historical Firearms that matched the patina. Picked up a sear at Vicitory Arms to replace original which had suffered through a bubba trigger job.

You’ll notice that the replacement stock is walnut but should be an early laminate, but this is what I had in my parts bin. Happy with how this turned out, and we’ll see how it shoots.

Nice. It's always good to do a true restoration with the correct bits if possible, but I'm the first person to advocate for "good enough" restorations when you have the parts on hand or can get them easily. Besides, if a better stock crosses your path down the road you can always replace it.

Exactly - those are my thoughts on this one.
