Looking to get more information on this rifle. Anyone can decipher the unit? The ./ has me confused.

I'll leave the marking to others since I'm not near my books and I can't quite tell if that's a J or an I, but zooming in on the pic the / looks less like a purposefully struck symbol and more like a bit of damage to the stock disk. A deep scratch or gouge.

I think it's 5. J.R.20.58.

Looks to be Reichswehr (Weimar) for 5th infantry regiment

The "/" indicates company. So 5th Kompanie, Infanterie-Regiment 20, Waffen 58. Bavarian unit, Weimar era marking.
