G29/40, mostly matching. Need opinion on possible restoration.

Hello, I recently acquired a G29/40. All visible serial numbers match beside the front barrel band. However, the stock has some issues. It has a big crack behind the tang, a dowell was inserted into the grip, the color of the dowell does'nt match the color of the stock. 3 nails were put into the sling hole on the buttstock. I would like to know if these things are worth restoring by a competent gunsmith. I'd like to fix the crack so I could shoot it, however the rest I do not know. I want your opinion.

More pictures of the metal parts and receiver please. Also, you could get a Yugo refurbed stock set from Sarco for 250 shipped for shooting it, that way you don't have to worry about damaging the original more or have to wait for it to be fixed. They are original German ones but just have some added Yugo markings.

Upon closer inspection it appears the crack was repaired. It was filled with some kind of epoxy. Here are some more pictures.

That's pretty neat. G29/40s are pretty uncommon. From what you provided it looks like the barreled action or most of it is matching. Perhaps it was sporterized at one point, and then put back in a different k98k stock. The originals would have all had the flat buttplate stocks. I also see that the front band is mismatched, so I take it the rear band probably is too. Does the bottom metal match? Looks like some type of later import with the Germany stamp. Nice looking rifle regardless.

The rear band does'nt match either. The bottom of the rifle matches down to the screws. Is it more of a shooter or a collector rifle ?
