G98/SS K98 Conversion Identification

Good afternoon,

I recently won this rifle online and was wondering if anyone here could help me identify this rifle. I’ll post as many pictures as I can and would really appreciate your guys opinions on wether this rifle is real or not and the history of it. All I know is that I came from a personal collection of an “avid” collector.

Thanks in advance!

The barreled receiver looks like a good SS Gew98 to K98 conversion. Looks like it’s had a coat of varnish. I’m not sure I like the numbers on the bolt root ( the font of the “4” looks modern). Is there anything on the underside or rear of the bolt root? . The skull should have looked like this.

Aha I knew I forgot to take a picture of an area. I believe there is a crown with a fancy V on the underside of the bolt root but I can send a picture later as I’m at work now.

Barrel/receiver is real SS, bolt and stock numbers are fake, rest is parts put together to “restore” what was probably missing.
Very cool to hear! May I ask how you’re able to tell the stock numbers are fake? Is it the font of the numbers on the interior or the SS II/3 on the butt of the stock?

Hope these came out okay, looks like an old imperial eagle and a letter B with a crown on it. The other markings I can’t personally make out.

The style of the numbers in the stock, and experience with these. Many of these in collections are just like this, lots of barreled actions came to the US in lots of mixed up rifles.
