Bayonet Frogs

I am seeking a list of German bayonet frog manufacturers from 1930 to 1945. I have one that I can only make out these characters, os nce, over Berlin over 1938. All other characters have been worn off. It has four aluminum rivets and a retaining strap w/ aluminum stud. Many thanks.

There really is no formal list of manufacturers. A few dedicated, long-time German bayonet collectors undoubtedly have some information in their research files. However, the best list in print can be found in Anthony Carter's BAYONET BELT FROGS (1997) book. I took a shot and reviewed all manufacturer names provided which were located in Berlin. Unfortunately, could not find anything close to the "os nce" partial mentioned in your post. No list is complete, and additional manufacturers have been reported since 1997. Perhaps a Forum member has the frog which would fill in the blanks for the information you seek...

Can you post some pics of the markings on the frog? From several angles if possible. Might help with the identification.

In case there is only short middle stitch it could be a LW pattern.

Hi Andy,

Is this something documented in the equipment and clothing services of the LW at the time? I've never heard of it, the LBA proof stamp is an indicator, but without, I'm having a hard time thinking they made this especially for the LW. What would be the purpose of shortening the stitching pattern? If you have infos I'd be glad to learn a thing or two. Thanks

LBA is not stamped since 1940 but the design is clearly LW. there were normal separately marked contract for LW and Marine on Kar98k, since late 1940 or 1941 it was changed that only Heer was probably stamped. On LW frog of this type You will never see a secure strap which was applied by mounted units and by Heer since 1936, short stitch was enough for them probably for fixing the both layers of leather as the side stitches are complete and 4 rivets should be there. Certainly there exist origin papers for extra contracts for LW. Why this was we dont known, but LW marked units prior 1939 still exists, which by Heer was already 1936 declared as obsolete. LW was allways a extra branch under Reichsmarschall H.G. influence, certainly with some links to friends or own industry.
