1913 WMO Gew98 Bavarian unit marked

Been wanting to get this rifle posted up for quite some time. But, unfortunately life gets in the way. Especially when you're running a family business. So, today I finally got this gewehr out of my safe. Waited for a break in the weather, and here we are!

I'll be honest. This is one of my favorite rifles in my collection. Especially on the history with how these ended up with Bavarian unit markings to begin with. Someday, I'm hoping to find a 1913 Amberg with Prussian unit markings, to go with it!

I also want to give a big thank you to my buddy Bill Reed. He's still the one that brought life back to it. He really does have the magic touch with these gewehrs! So yes it will always be the Bill Reed deluxe lol!

Rifle does have a mismatched rear sight leaf, and rear barrel band. Not to mentioned the clipped matching firing pin. But, I'm still very pleased with it nonetheless.

Beautiful! This is what I think when I imagine owning a Gewehr 98 in WW1 trim. The depot stamp is a cherry on top in my book as well! Congrats

Congrats on a nice prewar Gewehr 98! Really neat that this one retains the original bolt, stock, and trigger guard with the Mainz rework and the Bavarian provenance is odd but unique for a WMO.

I saw this thread and instantly got the feeling of déjà vu. Then it came to me on your post about this rifle from December of 2023... Good to see you finally post the full spread. It was a long wait from the teaser LOL.

Bill Reed must have really taken his time working this one over, and it shows.

If you have the Storz book it goes into more detail about it. It's pretty neat!

Was going through some of my photographs today. I didn't realize I had a picture in my collection. That was marked on the back to the same Bavarian Regiment as this WMO 1913. So I thought it would be appropriate here.

Very nice. Seems to be in France 14 Days or will be there in 14 days....

Hopefully he got his bayonet on correctly before he went to the front .

Very interesting, 2 Photos and same Company. Great observation on Bayonet. What is holding it???
