DOU 1942 Help

There is a guy local to me that has a KAR98k. At least that is what he calls it. Says the bolt matches, but not to the reciever. And says the reciever does not match the Stock. He is asking $800. I collect mostly German sidearms, but think it would be nice to have a WW2 Rifle. Any readflags? What should I know? What is a good price to pay?

It all depends what you’re looking for. DOU42 coded rifles are not easy to find. The issue is that it’s a mixmaster. Basically since the stock doesn’t match and neither does the bolt, it doesn’t hold too much collector value. It’s basically a representative “shooter”. So having said that, bore condition and muzzle/crown are probably the most important conditions to consider. Value…. It’s not terribly overpriced (unless bore is trash) but imo it’s also not a smoking deal. Considering the market for k98ks in general, it’s in a ballpark I suppose for entering into the hobby.

Pics of the triggerguard, the follower, and more pics in general would probably help.

I will see if I can get some more photos

Russian capture stocks have the number horizontal. Yugo refurbs numbers are like this stock, vertical

Bolt bend looks off as well to me. If it is not a German bolt 800 is way out of line

Look at the bolt base (red arrow in pic) There should be a Nazi Eagle proof if it is German. No proof not German

You guys are helping out so much. So the Waffenampt should be on the bolt handle itself, where you have the arrow pointing?

It would be on the back of the root (the firing proof). The top of the root is where the serial number is.
