New Info on Rifle 1918 DWM Berlin Gewehr

More info: Bolt handle has full matching serial "6210" on the flat. Underside of bolt handle flat has two markings on it, not Nazi so I assume they're imperial. Extractor claw has "10" right behind the actual bit that grips the casing. The rotating band on claw has "57". Stock has number...

New Info on Rifle 1918 DWM Berlin Gewehr

Sir, not 100% certain on the information. Again, being new at this, I noted incomplete and full numbers on the weapon in various places, but all, except for the round assembly the safety lever screws into, had some version of the same number on it. This is a learning process, of course. Tnx...

New Info on Rifle 1918 DWM Berlin Gewehr

The bands had full matching serials on them. I do believe the stock was numbered correctly. Buttplate definitely matched. Bolt did not close on empty, and one had to depress the tray with the finger just like a K98K. Last two serial number digits on smaller pieces, like the bolt handle. Philip

New Info on Rifle 1918 DWM Berlin Gewehr

The bolt body matches. Everything matches except as indicated. The etchings on the receiver are hard to read because of general filth. There are no suffixes. And the number on the stock buttplate matched. I don't remember if the wood had a serial on it. Philip

The safety looks like ine of those Beuhler low types, and is on the opposite side.

New Info on Rifle 1918 DWM Berlin Gewehr

Went by the gun store to reexamine the rifle in question. Here are the particulars: DWM Berlin 1918 Serial Number 6210. Numbers match on all pieces, EXCEPT The round piece that screws onto the bolt (into which the safety lever is inserted), is numbered 332. Also, the safety lever itself does...

    1918 Mauser 98A Good Lead

My RC was inherited from my father. Although its intrinsic value is nil, the personal value is priceless. And, its the first rifle I've owned. Every time I shoot it, I think of Pop. Jordan will get this rifle when its my time to "become one with the snows of yesteryear", although down here in...

    1918 Mauser 98A Good Lead

No further info at this moment. however, it had a straight bolt and is longer than my k98k. Stock very dark color, I don't think it had a stacking hook on the front....going on memory. In retrospect should have noticed details, but was excited at seeing my first WW1 rifle, and I am a novice of...

    1918 Mauser 98A Good Lead

I think its a 1918 DWM Berlin, if memory serves. It has the same "thru the stock" sling and rear sight as my K98K. Philip

    Remove K98K Rear Sight

I gave up on mine while I was ahead. A Navy veteran who loves Garands convinced me the rifle was meant to be fired with iron sights only. Now I have a scout mount with a LER scope that needs a new home. Philip

    1918 Mauser 98A Good Lead

They're asking 450 for it. I'll get more info the next time I am at the shop. It was in someone's collection who has passed, and the place is liquidating the estate. Philip

    1918 Mauser 98A Good Lead

That's good to know. I'll be sure to check before handing any cash over. Are these rifles as safe to shoot as the K98K's, assuming the bore and headspace are within spec, using standard 8mm Mauser ammo. Tnx Philip

    1918 Mauser 98A Good Lead

I have a good lead on a 1918 Mauser 98A. It has the newer style sight that is similar to the Karabiner 98K. Anything I should look out for that screams "DON'T BUY ME?", besides poor bore, non-matching numbers, etc. My impression is these are somewhat rarer than K98Ks. AND, what is the typical...

    Remove K98K Rear Sight

BTW, I don't see any sort of retaining pin holding the ladder. I should have entitled the post "sight ladder" removal. Philip
