    Odd Leather Frog?

Thanks guys. I'll do a thorough study when the pkg arrives. It looks possible that modifications were made somewhere along the line, where the original strap was removed as witnessed by the stitch holes in the leather. That type of strap config looks similar to a Swiss bayo I have where the...

Volume I and shipping and status

Nice Homecoming Present! Mike and Bruce, Arrived home from our Florida Christmas visit, to find lots of Michigan snow, and a nice present from Santa in my pile of mail! I received both signed/numbered volumes (005c), as ordered and am excited to dig in to them. On first scan-through, its quite...

    Odd Leather Frog?

Hi Folks, Looking for a little input on this little "bonus" frog that came with a 84/98 bayonet I just won. Its not like anything I've seen before from any German rigs from either war, and clearly is not a perfect fit for this The frog stud doesn't sit in any slot in the leather, but the...

    not another 1915 ERFURT Kar98

The "7,?" is most likely the caliber rating stamped on the barrel/receiver. Mine says "7.92", indicating the standard 8mm caliber (see photo below). And I agree - this is my favorite so far, even with the duffle cut. If you look at some of the discussions on this board, there are some that feel...

    not another 1915 ERFURT Kar98

Hey CafeRacer. I didn't realize from your other thread on duffle-cuts, that it was referring to a rifle similar to one of my favorites. I was lucky enough to acquire a GEW98 1917 from Amberg this past summer - also for a song ($250), that I learned a lot about thanks to SimsonSuhl (also Mike...

    Volume 1 Update

Number ID on Confirmation Statement? Mike and Bruce, Just got my confirmation from 3rd Party Press of the shipment of both volumes. Can't wait to receive them - should make for some enjoyable reading over the holiday downtime. Question though: On my confirmation statement, below my name...

    Duffle cut repair (pics)

Ouch!!! Talk about a heavy-handed approach! Can only guess that whoever made that cut in that location was in a hurry to pack his duffle cause his plane for home was leaving, and he lacked the time or know-how to dis-assemble the rifle in order to cut the fore-end stock. I wonder what that...

    Volume 1 Update

Hi Mike. Just got the 3rd Party Press notification, and placed my order for both books. Are any special instructions needed in order to receive the signed matching numbers set? Thanks

    KS-98 Manufacturers & Distributors

KS-98 Leather Donut HI Denny, My wife's uncle shipped me that Alcoso KS-98 bayonet this week. Its in "so-so" shape, with some surface rusting of the pommel and cross-guard. Other than that, its ok. Blade is nice and shiny, and not sharpened. It is, however, missing the leather donut at the...

    Gunbroker Ce43

Nice Rifle. I'm jealous of the butt stock markings. Those stampings are about as crisp as I've seen. My CE43's Heer and WaA marks are fainter, even though I don't perceive any sanding on my stock. Also pretty cool, are the gouges in the receiver - if those are from shrapnel!

Help with Mystery Weyersberg Bayo Please

I am still unclear as to the origin of this bayonet. It has all the similarities to a Chilean contract, but no Chile markings, as I stated above. There's another like it on eBay currently, with OEWG manufacture, and no Chilean markings as well. Seems like there are few like this one that do not...

    KS-98 Manufacturers & Distributors

Thanks Denny - Great Info! I love learning about this stuff. So, I take it that this particular unit with the ACS and Scales would be pre-1936 then?

    KS-98 Manufacturers & Distributors

Denny, Where would Alcoso KS-98's fall in the pecking order of value? Totally out of the blue, my wife called me from her visit with her uncle out in California, who heard I was getting into WW2 weapon collecting, and showed her his uncle's actual bring-back dress bayonet. Happens to be an...

    Dress Bayonet Scabbard Dis-Asembly?

Frog Pictures Denny, Here's a few pictures of the frog. Let me know if it still looks correct to this type of bayonet, based on the seam overlap being so narrow. And if you think its repairable. thanks again!

    Dress Bayonet Scabbard Dis-Asembly?

Thanks Denny, The screw is located on the front of the scabbard, as you say it should. Not sure what the purpose of the screw is, since it appears to maybe only hold one of the spring leafs from sliding out the top slot, while the other spring leaf holds against the first to keep them both...

    Dress Bayonet Scabbard Dis-Asembly?

I also recently picked up a WW2 dress bayonet from EF Horster. No date or other codes, but I think these weren't typically serial #'d or dated like other German blades? A couple questions: - Is there a procedure for dis-assembling the scabbard? My other recent pick-ups had screws that held the...

Help with Mystery Weyersberg Bayo Please

Thanks guys, I'm thinking Chilean now also - although don't Chile 1895's have the Chilean crest and the 3 intertwined circles on the ricasso opposite side from the makers mark? Picture referenced from WorldBayonets.com below. And what about the "C" on the spine of the blade. Andy - you were...
