    Gewehr 98 DWM 1917 1062l

Posting this for @Civilwarnut1863 who recently snagged it at auction. Nice example of a DWM 1917, but the bolt is most intriguing. While the striker assembly and collar are original, I suspect the bolt itself is an armorers replacement. I saw this because the number, though matching, is in a...

    Unit mark help?

The first 1 is the remnant of a B. It’s Bavarian 17th Infantry Regiment, 8th Company, 44th Weapon.

Why do some ID discs not have an acceptance mark?

Armorers parts were usually very well accepted, here are some examples: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/klein-und-gross-waffenmeister-gew98-armorer-kits.21701/ https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/armorers-parts.44774/

Why do some ID discs not have an acceptance mark?

    * I misinterpreted Nathaniel’s statement, but here’s my slightly tangential response: Bayonet lug pins, rear sight leave pins, trigger sear pins, floorplate release button pins in triggerguards, recoil lug nuts, stock disk screws, and buttplate screws come to mind. (And the pins likely could...

    Gew 98 sling? And questions

My mistake, sorry to sound condescending. Very little difference at all, other than sometimes the metal used in the stud. The pattern is the same and the leather should be the same dimension. The markings on the detach swivel is how you tell though. Instead of imperial acceptance they are marked...

    Gew 98 sling? And questions

Export means made for another governments contract (or the commercial market) opposed to a German government contract. Lysol will kill mold if it’s moldy. If it’s not mold then just use oil. Soap will dry out the leather. Oil will not.

    Gew 98 sling? And questions

Export version but same model as the early pattern Gew sling. Very light Ballistol or neatsfoot oil will be best for cleaning.

Research project: Gew98 Kaiserliche Marine contracts

Undated Simson SG 98. Cancelled I. M. D. marking, replaced by W. K. Scabbard and bayonet are forty numbers apart. Acceptance appears to be c/N, and the crown looks like the large and boxy imperial version.

"Greek knife" 1903/14 bayonet with steel scabbard

Does not look like German acceptance to me, but there could have been a mark there at one point. Either way, wonderful bayonet, i have only seen photos of a couple other unit marked ones.

    Bought this 13 years ago

@goldchevyguy it's probably still in 8mm Mauser. Being a 1915 Schilling it's rare enough, especially if the bolt matches, that a new barrel, band, and bayonet lug would be worth the effort. Would never be worth as much an an untouched one, but would look correct and be a great place holder. The...

Koln & Kustrin Reworked 1907 DWM Gew 98

Here is the thread Marc started where we are compiling examples: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/research-project-imperial-reworked-98-rifles-and-carbines.46371/ Right now it is difficult to say much with any certainty. There seemingly are trends, but we need more examples. As is it's hard to...

Duffle cut 1876 Steyr Kar 71

Much, much more likely it was a WWI bringback, when 71s were still used occasionally. That angled cut is very common on Gewehr 98s.
