Duffle cut 1876 Steyr Kar 71

Very nice Kar, Nathan. Thanks for posting it; it's in the reference!

1903 MAUSER ERFURT serial# 96 Gew. 98. All matching part numbers R96 except cleaning rod #90 UPDATE traded with a forum member my #90 for a #96

Sounds like it did not go through a depot then. If it has been reworked at some point there would be a large number for the depot and a smaller letter for the armorer above the lower screw.

1903 MAUSER ERFURT serial# 96 Gew. 98. All matching part numbers R96 except cleaning rod #90 UPDATE traded with a forum member my #90 for a #96

John, Paul/Loewe tracks data on German rifles by serial number. The list he posted he compiled from auctions, these forums, and people contacting him through his website. Broken down by manufacturer (Erfurt) and year, it lists the serial number of each Gew, then any additional information...

1903 MAUSER ERFURT serial# 96 Gew. 98. All matching part numbers R96 except cleaning rod #90 UPDATE traded with a forum member my #90 for a #96

Barrel replacements were not unusual, and many early Gews will have non original barrels with the same serial number, albeit with different fireproofs and font. This barrel is original though, judging from the photo of the barrel acceptance and fireproof. 1903 was the transitional year, so you...

    Amberg 1903

From the initial photos i had completely misjudged this Gew, too, but it was a real score. Nicely done, Sam, it's an outstanding early Amberg that i am excited to add to the reference. As for the acceptance, nothing out of the ordinary on it, but it's good to have another well documented example.

Very nice find! As mentioned above, the letter suffix is key, there would be a number 96 in every letter block. The caliber is 8mm Mauser. Value is always a little iffy on these, and most people are hesitant to guess, but you did very very well at $170 plus %15.

    1918 Erfurt Kar98a 6703 X block

Hell of a nice snag, Jory! I added it to the reference.

1914/16 Early Spandau Sterngewehr 8655 (no suffix)

Very interesting early Spandau Stern, Chris. Judging from the wrist acceptance, c/Z, i think there is a slight possibility it was assembled in 1915 (same year as the Schilling and Danzig salvages) because c/Z was common for standard rifle production around that time. However, looking at serial...

    CG Haenel Kar71

Great Kar 71 carbine, Marc! I love these little guys, too; certainly are handy and the nose looks cool. I’ll get her in the reference!

    Gewehr 98 Muzzle Covers

Weimar era. Simson e/6 spring but the maker might be another company, hence the W. Looks like a partial N acceptance stamp.

    Seitengewehr 14 Bayerische Griechischer Messer

Thanks, Andy, you are right it is a c/M. Was hard to tell for sure and my mind went to the c/W on early Amberg Gews.

    Seitengewehr 14 Bayerische Griechischer Messer

Picked up this Bavarian Simson Suhl “Greek knife” bayonet recently. These were so-called because they were originally part of a bayonet order placed at Simson for Greek Schönauer rifles, but the Bavarian government purchased them and had them fitted for the Gewehr 98 in 1914. Sometimes these are...

    Gewehr 98 J. P. Sauer 1916 9319h

Updated with the data chart. These always take a little longer, want to make sure all the acceptance is correct. Best way to find them! Thanks Mike! Sent you a message. Thank you, Rick! No not typical at all, first that i've noticed. I'm going to go check my '16 Haenel, it could have been a...

    Gewehr 98 J. P. Sauer 1916 9319h

Bolt. Safety is mismatched. I could use an armorers for it if anyone has one they’d part with.

    Stock wood. Markings are exceptional.

Front sight, triggerguard, and bands. Floorplate and follower are mismatched.
