    1915 Erfurt Kar98a 2053ee

Text book Erfurt 1915 Kar, Chris! Thanks for getting the photos up. It's in the reference now. Also good to have an example of a Kustrin rework, i will add it to the depot research thread. The depot number on the stock is great. I think that this was more common than we assumed, given that this...

    First Gewehr 98 - Salty Spandau 1916

Agreed, no reason to part out anything that matching. Nice save and congrats on getting it. I will put it in the reference. It likely received the double stock serial number at Koblenz. No reason that we know of as to why, but it is seen on other weapons.

First G98-1916 Simson & Co Gewehr 98 5677f. Any advice is appreciated

Hard to say for sure, and cleaned metal is better than sanded wood. For myself, and maybe some here will agree with me, cleaned metal with visible abrasions can knock 25-33% off value.

First G98-1916 Simson & Co Gewehr 98 5677f. Any advice is appreciated

Thanks for posting this here. Simsons are always good to see and i'll out it in the reference. It was produced towards the end of the year. Hard to say when exactly, because i'm not sure of how consistent Simson's rifle output was, but it was probably in the last few months of the year. I'll...

    Hannover Artilleriedepot Gewehre

The German Artillery Depot at Hanover (Hannover in German) became an assembler of rifles during the war. The depot had been equipped to produce ammunition once the war began, and its capabilities grew, likely out of necessity, as the war continued and presented higher need for weapons. Much like...

Interesting Spandau 1918, I need your advice...

You probably won't find much on them anywhere but here. Chris gave a pretty good rundown in post #11, and there's some good discussion here: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/1917-h-spandau.47098/ But i'll add what i can. The Hanover Depot seems to have picked up weapon assembly in 1916 or 1917...

Interesting Spandau 1918, I need your advice...

I really wouldn't worry about the sling. If you did ever find one with a German maker and date you could swap them, but really it's such a nice and rare piece the sling is inconsequential.

    Erfurt 1918, P08 169th Regiment

That is a fantastic idea, Marc. I completely agree; I’ll create a section in the Imperial Reference.

    Erfurt 1918, P08 169th Regiment

That’s a spectacular find, Sam. Being from a Baden regiment is really neat, too. When I looked for photos of IR 169 a lot came up, some quite good ones, but no officers or anyone with sidearms.

1906 DWM Navy Gew 98 #1102 (Werft Danzig)

Absolute stunner KM Gew, Chris, and the muzzle cover is icing on the cake. It's in the reference. The disjointed fireproof on the barrel is interesting, makes one suspect that they stamped these in halves to make up for the curve of the barrel.

Impulsive Purchase: 1877 VC Schilling Suhl Kar.71 Sporter

Sucks that it was cut down, but still very cool, and if the price was right what's the harm in having got it. The Bavarian munitions column markings is awesome.

    Gewehr 98 Danzig 1915 8827h

Thanks, everyone! I certainly do like the warhorses. And Danzigs. Gotta nice cheap scope of eBay that'll look real good on it.

    Gewehr 98 Danzig 1915 8827h

Nice photo, Rick! He looks poised and ready there, glad you moved him along. I have yet to see any here in Ohio this year.

Bands and stock metal. Note the cancellation marks on the earlier depot stamps on the buttplate.

    Gewehr 98 Danzig 1915 8827h

This Danzig has quite a pedigree: Sam pulled it out of the woodwork but sold it to a mutual friend when he upgraded. The mutual friend then passed it to me. It’s a great warhorse with rust toned metal yet spectacular bluing. The stock wood is very nice overall, with a large shrapnel strike on...

    Mauser bolt finish

Imperial bolts remained bare metal even after receivers were darkened. Here’s a great example of a late war Amberg with matching bolt: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/blued-1918-amberg-gew-98-c-block.50843/
