That's a good one Sam, especially with the late unit marking. I dipped my toe in the looger pond years ago with a somewhat scarce '14 Erfurt but stepped back out & refrained from getting into them.

Yesterday I saw this interesting image on a FB weapon's group titled "Assault Bicycle", lol, and noted the gewehr. It appears a sling parade loop is attached to the rear sling attachment hole.

From the pic you've shown, the wood is still too "proud" around the disk. The odds are really against it being unit marked in 1916. I'd let it go...
