Do you have pictures of the stock? Bottom of the buttstock in the keel area?

    Thoughts on this byf44?

I actually think it’s a “c” gustloff semi-kriegsmodell. Can’t be really certain because I can’t see the sling cutouts but the bolt cutout doesn’t look dot/post war Czech to me. Left to right : OP’s stock, C marked gustloff, Dot (postwar has the same style cutout)

I think this is a loss honestly. You didn’t overpay tremendously, but you’re in the hole imo. I agree with Cyrano4747 in that the swastikas looks peened. Will be able to confirm with better pics. The metal screams to me as some kind of post war refurb, maybe Balkan or yugo… which may have been...

    Sniper or not

You literally almost never see something like this…. Looks mint! Thanks for sharing. The big question is… are you buying it?

    1st k98

I wouldn’t say you will get “flamed” but RC’s have become extremely collectible and have tripled in price in the last 8-10 years. So, you may consider that. Also plenty of built repro snipers available to buy…. It may be even cheaper than having it built yourself. “Period correct” will depend...

    K98k? New to Mausers

Is there a reason why you can’t post pics? We can’t answer your questions without it. It will be guesswork as to what you have. Plenty of possible reasons why you don’t have a serial where you should have it. One is a replaced barrel post war with a unserialized barrel. The list can go on and on….

J.P. Sauer und Sohn serial number section for all matching rifles

Basically if the mods and top experts decide your rifle is good enough to make the grade for the reference section… they make it so.

    BNZ 1944 - Possible First German K98K

All 1944-45 examples from my collection…. First 3 left to right… Mauser Oberndorf red glue laminate followed by my walnut MO on byf45’s Next 2 are the white glue Haenel supplied stock to JP Sauer. Next 2 are from my late Dou45 Next 2 are from late Dot Next 2 are from my 44 bnz ss contract...

    BNZ 1944 - Possible First German K98K

WaA655 parts and Eagle/135 denote Mauser Oberndorf production/inspection. Furthermore, as mentioned above, the bolt cutout in the stock is Mauser Oberndorf. Almost every manufacturer/assembler had their own trademark “cutout style”. Especially Steyr (BNZ) which in 44-45 had a the trademark “low...

    BNZ 1944 - Possible First German K98K

Looks like an earlier Mauser Oberndorf stock. Nothing wrong with the floorplate. Pretty normal for them to use “milled” floorplates as well. Looks like this was a “sporter rescue”…

    J. P. Sauer und Sohn BCD 4 Markings

***Correction. After just examining my later JPS collection. My “t” block bcd 4 marked receiver actually has a astrawerke bolt body (stamped “1” on the bottom of the root) and has the typical, but faint JPS firing proof on the back. My “u” block ce44 also has a astrawerke (1) supplied bolt and...

    My gunshow RC 41duv

Great pickup for the price. Really clean looking RC. I would leave it just as is. These have been exploding in price especially harder to find receiver codes like this…. Yes, I believe the “7” and additional “X” are Soviet depot/repair/rearmament markings. Haven’t seen too many RC’s with a two...

    J. P. Sauer und Sohn BCD 4 Markings

Yours is a fairly late example JP Sauer assembled rifle. During this timeframe, the Germans were not wasting too much time worrying about subcontracter markings, in house markings or waffenampts. Of course this varied from manufacturer and assembler to certain degrees. When it comes to JPS, they...

    CE43 Commercial

Since the stock and bands don’t match, why would you need another stock? If a duffle cut stock is repaired right, shooting is not an issue. Most likely this was a “sporter rescue”. At least somebody put it in a legit JPS Haenel stock. So it’s the “correct” for the barreled action. If it were...

    Twisted Receiver

Whoa. Never try and “untwist” a 98k receiver for firing purposes. It’s totally compromised at this point. Even if you were to line it up so that the bolt works, it’s a danger to yourself. If it won’t break apart on the first shot, it’s a time bomb. As mentioned, plenty of receivers and torn down...
