BYF45 Stone Mint - possibly unfired

Also, whatever probable caustic product that was used to basically bleach clean the stock does not react well with the somewhat “weaker” white glue….

    BCD LSR Sniper newly acquired

So just to expand more. You’re referring to very late serial range “3 hole” rifles most likely not being issued, correct? I ask because earlier serial numbers of “3 holes” have appeared with their stocks not cut out for mount. So are you saying, just the late variations did not get issued or...

BYF45 Stone Mint - possibly unfired

Well on that issue is where opinions will inevitably vary. The term “done perfectly” is subjective I suppose. I would strongly disagree. It’s been cleaned with something strong and definitely sanded. Most of us collectors here value the unmolested nature of a stock highly. Many top collectors...

    BCD LSR Sniper newly acquired

Glad you took took the drive man! You deserved a little luck after that SVW MB fiasco! The icing on the cake is that you are in process to restore it to its former glory. Happy for you!

BYF45 Stone Mint - possibly unfired

Agreed. Went through the reference material to check. Pretty rare configuration of stock that shows up in the no letter block of byf45 production. As mentioned, should have the buttplate drilled takedown hole according to “the books”. Looks like a “sintered/pressed” metal front band so that’s...

BYF45 Stone Mint - possibly unfired

At this late serial range, shouldn’t this one have a full-kriegs stock?

    BCD LSR Sniper newly acquired

Wow! This is exactly why Dave Roberts is Dave Roberts! What a spot! Unbelievable. You can clearly see the circular rotation “imprint” of the center locking screw on the metal. You can also make out the one towards above the right side hole. The placement is spot on. I had a strong feeling it...

    BCD 4 3 Hole 6362

It’s your rifle so of course, you do what you want. Having said that, I personally do not see the point at all. The “3 hole” is a rare variant of a standard issued army rifle. It never had a base fitted so it’s completely incorrect. Many of these 3 holes have been ruined by people making fake...

    BCD LSR Sniper newly acquired

Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but why would that be? I thought the “3 hole” was issued as a regular army rifle…. With the additional pin holes, wouldn’t that mean it was assembled into a sniper? Also the stock inletting. I’ve seen “3 hole” bcds with no stock cutout for the mount.

    BCD LSR Sniper newly acquired

Very much agree. Just look at those screws. Unmarred and unmolested by regular cheap flathead screwdrivers. That bolt is something else for me. The shroud… what an example. Congrats 🎉🍾. Many of us only dream to find something like this in their lifetimes. This situation does not happen often...

    Possible purchase bcd insight appreciated

I don’t have the expertise on the sniper subject to make the call. However, my gut suggests it may be a LSR instead of a 3 hole that was modified post war. I could be completely wrong on that, but for $1000 asking and it has what appears a matching bolt… I’m taking the chance but that’s just me.

    Possible purchase bcd insight appreciated

I’m not an expert on these variants but for that asking price I would be taking the risk. The bolt appears to match. Thick sidewall. I don’t think money can be lost on this one…

    Possible purchase bcd insight appreciated

It appears to have the smaller holes for pins as well as the 3 hole…. I won’t dare suggest it…..

    Possible purchase bcd insight appreciated

Gustloff rifles are not my thing, but unless im seriously mistaken… isn’t this a thick sidewall receiver. Mostly Phosphated parts. Long key sniper safety which is blued (as I understand it, they never phosphated those). Now as to it being a 3 hole gun or LSR, I have no idea but that’s a bcd4...

New to Mausers, my first purchase. Help with markings

I don’t consider myself a purist by any means. Like everything in life, time and place. There are things you leave alone and other things you can tinker with. Wasn’t my intention to preach or convey that image. Honestly just doesn’t make sense to me unless you were trying to build a sniper...

New to Mausers, my first purchase. Help with markings

Hold on? So you bought the rifle for $33 bucks but the previous owner wants the vz24 barrel on there currently? Can you just buy a vz24 barrel and give it to him. There is no shortage of them and they come with sight components...

New to Mausers, my first purchase. Help with markings

Is the bore on that vz24 barrel bad? I ask because unless you have money to burn or are a gunsmith… this will cost you a pretty penny even with the barrel you have. Getting that firing proof (Dirty Bird Eagle) on the barrel lined up with the receiver will be a big challenge. Usually they don’t...
