1916 all matching Mauser Oberndorf G98 finally home!

The rifling is very strong and the bore clean. A great rifle. It does have some numbers lightly carved in the side of the stock but I consider it part of the history.

1916 all matching Mauser Oberndorf G98 finally home!

I finally brought my new pride and joy 1916 MO Gewehr 98 home and a 1916 Deutsche Machinenwerk A-G Duisberg S98/05nA with removed sawback tagged along. I had some initial photos in another post but here are some better details. It matches down to the firing pin. I am very pleased. I hope you...

3 Imperial Bayonets, your input is appreciated.

Thanks! I just learned about "Turked" blades. That's a no go. I actually like the modified 98/05 if the story I understand is correct, in that they started removing the sawback due to the allied Soldiers believing they were specifically designed to inflict more damage (rather than used as a...

3 Imperial Bayonets, your input is appreciated.

Good evening. My favorite local shop has three Imperial bayonets of interest that I submit for your input. Two are, I believe 98/05s and one is an Ersatz. The two 98/05s are interesting. One is an Erfurt 1906 (maybe 08) sawback with leather / metal tipped scabbard ($235). The other is a...

Looking for places I can look up unit assignments of my 98K

I think I remember seeing that one. It was in rough shape when sold, I think Sailor engraved info in the stock, but it was cleaned up and and WOW!

Nice all matching Oberndorf 1916 Gewehr 98

last ones. I will go look closer at the bayonet as well. They do have a G98b or modified (non matching) and a couple Gew88s (haven't looked closely at them).

Nice all matching Oberndorf 1916 Gewehr 98

Yes, I apologize. It is the Kar.98a Erfurt/18, or is it Kar.98az with the "hook" on the front? It is in a mismatched stock but the hardware (bands, trigger housing etc) match, the bolt is matching. Again, with no import stamp it makes me think this is a field replaced stock perhaps? Again...

Nice all matching Oberndorf 1916 Gewehr 98

They do have a sawbuck for $325...I struggle at the thought of paying half the price of the rifle for the bayonet. I have the same problem with my M1903, the M1905 bayonet is expensive too. This is ehy I love the thrill of the hunt stumbling on good deals.
