DWM 1906 Kaiserliche Marine- Gouvernment Kiautschou

Your photos make it look so much better than the listing photos, congrats on a fascinating naval Gew 98! Is this the first unit mark for Kiautschou that's appeared on the forum? And if this one saw service in Asia, one has to wonder how well traveled this one is and its story of how it wound up...

Gewehr 98 Spandau 1914 SOS show purchase

Congrats on completing the 1914 set! That's a lovely Spandau 1914, hard to believe it survived the whole war in such nice shape. Thanks for sharing such nice pics of it!

    Gewehr 98 Amberg 1917 4287u

Congrats on picking up a nice late Amberg Gew! The darker beech on this one is quite striking compared to the lighter brown that I see more often with these beech stocks.

SOS 2025 byf43 pick up. All Matching from a German half track

That's a beauty of a rifle, congrats! Would've been even cooler if the half-track came with it!

    Walther ac43 P38 Rig

Thanks! It's the nicest one I've ever seen in person though I'm sure there's some real stunners that other forum members have. Thanks! Both of my Walthers have the plum finish, maybe one day I'll get a Walther that's just blued but I do like the dual tone finish that the plum makes with the bluing.

Finally got the P38 i wanted

Nice, I thought I'd stop at just one and now have 3 of them. P38s are more affordable than K98ks though so it doesn't hurt the wallet as much when you do stumble across a nice one.

    DOU 44 welded H band variant #1332 e

That's a beauty of a rifle congrats! I really got to pick up a dou one of these days. I wonder if this style of H band is where the Yugos got their inspiration for the welded bands on their M48As.

SOS Find BCD 41 with ship home label

That's an awesome rifle and the veteran provenance is pretty sweet, doesn't get any better than that. Congrats on a fantastic rifle!

    Matching 1918 Erfurt Kar98a Markings/Value?

For the recoil lug, no. There was a standard procedure for installing recoil lugs and they had the correct spanner to not brutally mar up the holes on the recoil lug nut. You'll see it often in Mausers that someone with a makeshift spanner tries to take the lug out and slips, leaving the idiot...

Finally got the P38 i wanted

Congrats on your first, we all have to start somewhere. Looks like a Mauser-Oberndorf magazine found its way into your pistol but it's definitely a well carried piece. The locking block is numbered on these as well, though you have to disassemble it to see it. Overall, looks like a nice P38.

    Matching 1918 Erfurt Kar98a Markings/Value?

Welcome to the forum! As far as firsts go, this is a pretty nice one for your first! There's a lot to like with this one including what looks like an original WWI sling on the gun, the only thing that detracts from it is someone put the recoil lug in backwards and butchered the holes on the nut...

    Gewehr 98 DWM 1901 8253 Kaiserliche Marine

Sounds like you had a great time at SOS, looking forward to seeing what else came out of it. Really appreciate the detailed dissection and pictures of the small components on this one, didn't know that punch marks and assembly numbers were used on these early ones. Congrats on picking up an...

    G29/40 A block 660 Radom Crest Kriegsmarine

I really do love the Polish crest on these rifles and the condition on this one is excellent. Congrats on finding such a nice G29/40!

The 1914 rifle set is complete

Looking forward to seeing more pics, looks like a nice one from just the one pic! Hope you all managed to come back with something from SOS. I'm curious about this too, would love to go next year.

    Barrel - markings

Serial numbers were dropped from the barrels for most K98k manufacturers in 1942 as part of the simplification of arms manufacture and inspection. Many parts had serialization and inspection dropped this year and in Mauser Oberndorf's case, they went so far as to remove the lot numbers of the...

Just came home with a duv44...and she's a pretty one....

I was watching this one just to see what would go for. I'd definitely be interested in seeing some pictures in a new thread considering the listing pics weren't the greatest.

    Barrel - markings

Those are barrel codes which were used to track barrel production. The Steyr barrel code is the steel lot number "39", the finisher of the barrel blank (Circle W, which is Steyr), and the barrel blank supplier "Ru" for Ruhrstahl. The CE 42 barrel code reads as the barrel finisher "S" for Sauer...
