    Came into an interesting stock

A gunsmith friend gave me a beat up walnut 98k stock last week so I could shoot my guns without worrying about the stock cracking. This stock has taken several days gluing and pinning the numerous cracks and chunks missing but it looks like it might work. I've had to pin it in 9 places and...

    dot 1944 using VZ.24 receiver

I bought this yesterday at a very small, hole in the wall pawn/gun shop in NC. It was on consignment but the seller had no history other than his now deceased brother gave it to him 30 years ago. No cleaning rod and it came with a partial sling. $550 OTD. It didn't need much cleaning, just some...

    Replacement Es340N

I sent an ES340N back to the dealer because of issues with the forend of the stock being worked on and the rear sight assembly was from another gun. I received another in exchange on Friday and its a pretty nice gun. https://simpsonltd.com/mauser-es340n-c31692/ It needed a couple of small...

ES340N year of manufacture? UPDATE: not what it appered

I just bought a Mauser ES340N from Simpson's that should be here on Friday. It is serial number 1331xx, I don't have the last 2 digits and forgot to ask. It has a grooved barrel as well as the receiver. Any idea about when it was made? https://simpsonltd.com/mauser-es340n-c31755/

Aside from a loss in velocity and collector value, is there any practical downside to an EL24 barrel that's been shortened to 20.5"?

    PP holster vintage?

I bought this PP holster at a gun show a couple of years ago. I figured $50 was low risk. Other than the PP ink stamp and what looks like a serial number on the back, it is unmarked. The closure stud is steel. Any ideas on the vintage of this?

Proper sling for GECO Modell 33

I paid for a Geco Mod. 33 this morning and was wondering what sling would be proper for it. I know its set up for a Gew98 type but would the length be the same? Here's a link to the gun ad. https://www.lugerforums.com/threads/wts-geco-model-33-sportbuchse-22-training-rifle.126556/#post-984339

    S/42G recoil lug

Tonight I got to looking at my S/42G bolt mm and noticed the recoil lug waffenamt is different than the rest of the gun. Where most waffenamts are a mix of e/63 & e/211 the recoul lug is e/221 f and the nut is marked B. Is it possible the recoil lug was replaced at some point?

    Krieghoff broken shell extractor

I was doing some cleaning in the shop today and opened an ammo can where I keep WWII era cleaning accessories. I found this broken shell extractor but have no idea where I got it. I don't even remember seeing before. Its marked "fzs" on the handle and a very small "4" on the sliding tube.

    What book(s) for WWI 98s?

Recently buying my first Imperial 98, a 1916 Erfurt Kar98a, has whetted my appetite a bit for them. I don't have a desire for more than one or two but I would like to learn more about them. What book or books should I get to give me similar information as the "Karabiner 98k" books have given us...

    Gunshow find this weekend

In the militaria section I listed some of my finds this weekend. I got this today at the same show. 106xxx serial number Orgies .32 auto. I didn't pay a lot from the dealer and then found out why when I got home. The frame and all internal parts are all numbers matching but the slide and...

    Books on S84/98 bayonets

For the new collector of German bayonets what would be the recommended books I should have? Also, were all bayonets issued with a frog? I have an agv41 marked bayonet that is in an unmarked scabbard, save for the "20" stamped on it, that shows no sign of ever having a frog on it. I'm guessing...

Help to I.D. mark in barrel channel

I have Steyr K98k stock that is marked Kr in the barrel channel. About 2 or 3 "spaces" after that is a 2. Is it a prossess or inspector mark? The serial number is in the barrel channel but the exterior of the stock is completely unmarked. The Kr mark seems familiar but I don't know why.

Late byf part on a commercial rifle

I was in a pawn shop today and noticed an FN hunting rifle. On the rack I couldn't tell what it was but the stamped, two hole trigger guard jumped out at me. I couldn't tell if the gun was a factory build or gunsmith build but the trigger guard was stamped, marked byf and e/135. No locking screw...

Gun show finds this past weekend

1916/17 transitional helmet, ET64. The liner was gone except for a little ring of leather and the felt. Turns out the liner I've been sitting on for about 12 years after a restoration came in handy. It is the perfect size.

Need opinions on byf45 Full Kriegsmodell

I bought the gun today at a gunshow from a guy I've dealt with before. The gun looked right as rain so I bought it. It wasn't until I got it home that it occurred to me the bolt root wasn't stamped with the letter suffix. The gun is serial number 6657a. Then my attention was drawn to what looks...
