    Recesses about 4inches from end of barrel.

    I couldn't even see these cuts or recesses in the end of the barrel when I first got this rifle they were full of carbon, it's a 1937 S/42. My other 1938 Mauser doesn't have it, is it to reduce muzzle flash? Do they normally all have this or what? :/

    S/42 1937 Barrel makings: 2// ? ~ ? and 5 pointed star?

    Got few pics here just want some answers on what these marks are mid way on the barrel? Also under the receiver and on the bolt there seems to be an German $. The bolt is a mm but has S/42+waa63 like on the rifle. Does this indicate possible period replacement? Cheers for any info.
