I couldn't even see these cuts or recesses in the end of the barrel when I first got this rifle they were full of carbon, it's a 1937 S/42. My other 1938 Mauser doesn't have it, is it to reduce muzzle flash? Do they normally all have this or what? :/

Was this ever intended for a K98 The claw mounts are 70mm apart, now I tried to send this back to get one with 90mm gap. Is there a mount base that will suit this 70mm claw mounts? Or these for a smaller calibre rifle?

Got few pics here just want some answers on what these marks are mid way on the barrel? Also under the receiver and on the bolt there seems to be an German $. The bolt is a mm but has S/42+waa63 like on the rifle. Does this indicate possible period replacement? Cheers for any info.
