1879 Reichsrevolver

Not sure if Reichsrevolvers are allowed in here as they aren't Mauser rifles, but I don't know a better bunch of people who can help me with this one.

I recently acquired this one from a pawn store of all places, and I was wondering about this marking under the serial number on the barrel looks kind of like an "&" sign.
Is this some sort of rebuild marking?

It is unit marked to the 33. Feld Artillerie Regiment, "1 Lothringisches" a Prussian unit, but it is GF on the barrel which I thought meant Bavarian ownership, but also has a Prussian eagle marked cylinder, that's why I'm wondering if it's a rebuild or depot.

Anyways here are a few pictures.

The day Reichsrevolvers aren't allowed is the day I take my posts and go elsewhere! 😉

Lovely pick-up. This one seems to be a depot rework, as you noted, because of the mixed Prussian and Bavarian markings. If this was original Bavarian, the cylinder would also have the GF firing proof.

Hard to tell from the pics, but this looks to be a WW1 era reblue.

Very cool, thanks for sharing! I have a love of these and hope others catch on to them too. Ugly as sin and terrible sidearms, but cool nonetheless.

Haha, thanks Chris, I've always found the Reichsrevolver interesting, happy to have found the model I preferred. Crazy to think that these were still being carried in World War 1.

Thanks Cyrus i find the mix of Bavarian and Prussian pretty neat
The various state acceptances are pretty cool to collect. I've finished the M83 set, but hoping to find a Saxon M79 one day.

You don't tend to see these with mixed parts like you have that in and of itself is pretty uncommon.

I find these a lot more interesting than lugers. They are harder to find but generally a lot more affordable---and despite their ugliness still have a high degree of fit and finish that you would expect for a pre War German weapon.
