I finally brought my new pride and joy 1916 MO Gewehr 98 home and a 1916 Deutsche Machinenwerk A-G Duisberg S98/05nA with removed sawback tagged along. I had some initial photos in another post but here are some better details. It matches down to the firing pin. I am very pleased. I hope you enjoy!

Great looking 100 year old gun. Ha ha. I love it when the receiver is untouched like that, and no one buffed the hell out of it.

Hows the bore...?

The rifling is very strong and the bore clean. A great rifle. It does have some numbers lightly carved in the side of the stock but I consider it part of the history.

An excellent job at photographs! Covered everything this time and clearly. Other than flipping the crossbolt back, you have a damn fine rifle, even with the etched numbers. Had it not been for those two things this would be a super rifle, - perfect mate for your byf/43, both years (1916 & 1943) were similar for the company during war, both years were about the peak effort. In 1916 they made the most G98's, not surpassed until 1939 (with the 98k), with about 320k rifles. In 1943 it was the second highest year for Mauser ever, with 550k, not surpassed until 1944 with 665k, which is the record for any maker of the Modell98 military rifle (Brno combined made more, dot & dou, - their production totals are combined, but individual operations byf/44 is highest..).

Anyway, they make a nice representative pair.

Thank You Loewe. I'm trying to get better at photography.

I appreciate the observations and input on the link between this and my byf43. That was kind of what drew me to this rifle. Nothing super unique but pretty representative what a landser may have carried at the height of their respective conflict...though it surely has me wanting more! A new friend of mine has a very nice byf44 and a bcd4 that has me twitching. He had another all matching 1916 MO G98 for half what i paid for this but it has an import mark from Turkey...

Here are a couple photos of my other interest, Steyr manufactured weapons. I hope you like!

Very nice bore indeed... I had an 1917 Obie Turkish Sniper sans mounts and optics....the stock was a MM but the bands matched the metal... the bore was fair @ best which I couldnt get past as I enjoy shooting them and she just couldnt pass muster for me...Sold it to a forum member who wanted its for its historical significence.

Still have a hankerin for a matching Gew98 with an excellant tube.

The search continues.
