A fairly decent specimen. Bands, rod & action screws are mm. Extractor & rear sight leaf are unnumbered. It is worth noting that all the small rear sight parts are matching though. The other parts are matching to the receiver. Buttplate has some interesting damage, a “5” Koblenz depot marking & also an additional “D” marking (Danzig?). It’s also worth noting the top of the buttplate has the original suffix. Barrel is Krupp marked. Anyhow I understand these are fairly uncommon due to Spandau shifting towards 08/15 production late in the war.

A very nice rifle Marc, and very scarce to locate. You don't see many original Spandau 1917 gewehrs is very often. Not to mention this matching either. Plus you got it for a good price too buddy.

Looks like a good one that didn't see a ton of work . Good and clean overall. The rear sights seem to be the most common thing reworked; the leaf probably snapped or got warped and they popped on a new one. They didn't seem to be numbered to match all that often. That auction treated us both pretty well!

Nice rifle Marc, certainly tough to find. It has a neat Amberg manufactured floorplate, that’s pretty late for loose Amberg parts.

Spandau/17 is known to the k-block, though 3or 4 reports exist to the n-block. These are probably assembles by others or some misreporting as Danzig incorporated some Spandau/17 receivers into their production and m-blocks are known. It takes some knowledge to differentiate, though most experienced collectors could do it as we are familiar with the different traits or characteristics (FP most especially)

As said, these are rather elusive, Spandau/17's approaching factory condition, like most 1917's they tend to be nicer but featured high in the destruction totals after the war. Characteristically most that survive are interwar or NS era rifles, - what kind of skews this characterization is the great number of Spandau/17 marked receivers that found their way to assembly by others or post-war (interwar often) assembly. REAL Spandau/17's are rather elusive because of all these factors. They just "seem" to be common!
