Here is a cool 98m that I picked up at SOS this year from a collector who is a member here. Thanks, Chuck! Most people that know me here know that I appreciate a good 98 Visier. This one had some issues when I picked it up. The hand guard was in two pieces and the stock had a sloppy duffle cut and the front screw was broke off in the action. I have a good contact that dose awesome stock work and he fixed the hand guard and the duffle cut. A friend here helped me out with a replacement screw. It’s all numbers matching either by WMO or the depot out side of the firing pin, bolt striker and of course the front screw. The follower is an unnumbered armorers spare. The stock and the bayonet lug are numbered 7179 and 79 but the keel is depot numbered 7471 to match. I think it’s a really cool old war horse built on a neat maker year Gew98. Anyone with any information or thoughts on the BS/KS markings please comment. I am also interested in thoughts on the Gz marking on the stock…

Great rifle Jory-- I'm glad you listened to that little devil standing over your shoulder at SOS to buy this one. Glad your guy got that broken screw out -- The front screw really fits in well on it! It's in the reference section now.

For folks that might not realize, this one is pretty remarkable in that it was a 1918 WMO that actually stayed in German service rather than landing in Turkey. While it has seen some subsequent rework, it's a great survivor!

Maybe one day we'll actually crack the code on the intertwined BS / KS marking-- yours differs somewhat from mine in placement. The Gz could maybe be some sort of location marking tied to the BS/KS-- mine has "Br" and "Rp"

NICE G98M Jory! I've just started discovering G98Ms myself as a point of interest, and I must say they are underrated. This is an attractive rifle with some curious markings haha. Hopefully the code on them will eventually be cracked. Thanks for sharing.
