Here is a pretty sweet pick up for me. I was looking mostly for a 1933 dated Banner K in prime condition. This example certainly fit the bill. It’s serial number is 59679 and is a DRP example for the city of Dortmund. I really like that this one was marked for the city, I just think it adds to the rifle. The rondel for this rifle is featured on page 170 of Volume 1. For those interested here are photos of the rest of the rifle. If you would want to see photos of something not pictured here, please ask and I will provide….

Wicked nice rifle! Thanks for sharing.

Most of the Banner rifles seem to be generally in excellent shape (German contact). What’s the consensus, on how they survived the war all at a solid 90-95% condition? Likely just sat on a rack throughout the war?

Always seemed odd that these are so mint. Especially at the end of war when the Germans were scraping the bottom of the barrel with trying to arm everyone.

Or, even in the beginning when a fair amount of troops were armed with WWI rifles. I guess that can be explained the banners were privately purchased by govt firms.

The DRP in the sling well is an abbreviation for Deutsche Reichspost or mail service followed by the city the weapon was issued to. There are others who can elaborate more on the subject. That’s why this series seem to have seen little use.
Edit:
Here is some information on the lineage of these early rifles.
Nice acquisition Jory!

Thanks guys for all the kind comments. It really is a beautiful piece…. I never imagined when I got into this that I would like the Standard Modell’s and Banner K’s as much as I do.

She's a real beauty! I love the pre war quality that is readily apparent with this rifle!
