Hello, new to the group and i really joined to show this rifle.
I'm not a collector of German guns, but i did happen to luck into the excellent 1944 G98/40 at a local farm auction the past weekend.
The story is that the gentleman, whos property was being sold brought it back from WW2.
The rifle is a 1944 with laminate stock. It is 100% all numbers matching and has an excellent bore. The sling is in rough shape, but is also dated 1944.
It has around 85-90% original bluing with some greying and freckling on the trigger guard, floor plate and buttplate.
I'll let the pics tell the story.

You certainly grabbed a nice one there. Not sure how much interest it drew being it was a 'farm auction' but it shows you really never know where things will show up. Congrats!

I was the only one at this auction that knew what it was. It was listed only as a "military rifle" and there was only one other guy bidding against me who thought it was a mauser.
Yes it is listed on GB, it just doesn't fit into my collection.

Its a nice rifle. I would have kept it. I use to own one many years ago. I had a 41 to. My divorce took them away. They are hard to find like that. And it has the round hood still attached. Which are always missing.

these are one of my favorites.. something about the 44's in that white lam wood work... very hard to find and in that shape !! Ive had a few passed through my hands like that.
