8mm Exploding Ammunition ID

Been offered some exploding ammunition for around $10 per round + shipping. This to me seems fair.

However I am not familiar with this particular 8mm round and if it is indeed the "observation" exploding sniper round as it has a grin ring marking above the black on the projectile.

I've googled a bit and this one just does not come up. No headstamp(did not ask)but box says RH 1943.. Label sadly ripped off long ago.

It looks like a "Beobachtungspatrone verbessert Tropen" and here you can read (you can use Google translator) something about it: Link

Very nice! Thank you!
So from what I'm reading, it's the standard B "observation"(I know that may or may not be correct but I feel comfortable saying that) round but improved for tropical climates?

You are very welcome!

It isn't the standard B-Patrone (observation), the "verbessert" has nothing to do with the improved for tropical climates, it refer to the ballistic. The standard B-Patrone has a charge with Nitrozellulose-Gewehr-Blättchen-Pulver 2 . 2 . 0,45. Your version has a charge with Nitropenta-Gewehr-Röhren-Pulver (1,8 . 1,3 / 0,2), it's pentaerythritol tetranitrate: Link.

It is the improved (verbessert) version of the B-Patronen which used a better powder load that increased ballistic performance. It also has the lacquer seal to prevent tropical moisture intrusion thus "auch für Tropen".

Edit: I see I was beaten to the punch...

My intentions are to save up and grab the two K98k books sponsored here first. However after that if you still have the book I'll grab it off of you. Thank you for offering to me :happy0180:

I have a full box of B-Patrone. Thought I had a photo, must have deleted it somehow over the years. Got it at an antique shop years ago for $20 if memory serves. Laquered steel case, 1944 production.

This might indicate a late fabrication; how are the cartidges marked? If they are not from the same lot this would indicate late war production, because for this type brass shells were re-used.

Source has 6+ boxes(wont tell me exactly how much and I don't blame him). His others have labels on them, hence why he's willing to part with this box.
