98k still used in German military - Guard Battalion

They have great camo patterns. Looks like a nice utility uniform from my point of view, with no firsthand experience of course.

written translation doesn’t quite follow the lecture…… & demilled! ugh!!
Not uncommon for drill rifles regardless of the country. Plenty of VFW guns with welded chambers, plugged bores, etc.

edit: frankly I get it. Setting aside the fact that we're the sort of people who love the guns for their history and want to see them preserved in original condition, if you look at it purely as a functional tool it makes perfect sense. If I'm some random VFW I don't want to have to worry about properly securing functional firearms. Something that's had the bolt trimmed or is welded up is way, way less of a problem and a liability if it walks out the front door. That's the kind of thing that you can just throw in a locker with a cheap padlock, rather than properly securing it as a firearm.

Is it a shame when you see that gun wander through the CMP half a century later? Sure is. But I get why it was done.

From what I've heard they only sanitized the markings a couple years ago, for a long time they still had waffenamts with swastikas.

Might make sense, there were a few bad scandals in the Bundeswehr in the last decade, I could see them getting around to that as part of some general house keeping.

In 1995 there was some newspaper articles about the "nazi guns" and then they started to remove all the swastikas from the rifles.

Now no one can be hurt with it anymore, and the barrels and bolts have also been destroyed. In today's Idiocracy era, it is probably too dangerous to hand a soldier a functioning rifle while on duty.

…especially if they come from someplace else and carry a grudge!
