Hi all,
Here's one I've been sitting on for a while. This AC 45 d-block K43 popped out of the woodwork a couple years ago and I scooped it up and promptly stuck it in the safe and never really messed with it or got detailed pics to share until now. I'm currently on a quest to acquire a matching non-refurb "bring back" Podolsk SVT-40 (or perhaps a 38) to bring my SVT collection closer to completeness, so I've been going through some of my things to try to get an idea of their value and see what I have to cut loose to make this dream a reality.
The rifle is as far as I can tell in original condition with matching numbers on all serialized parts and I don't sense anything that's off about it. It came to me as you see it with the ZF4 rig installed. It was very dusty when I got it and beyond wiping it down once that's the extent to which I've cleaned it. The bore is excellent. Seems to have all of the late Walther upgrades present and also has bolt hold open. Stock is solid and free of cracks aside from a small area of separation pictured at the front end of the handguard which doesn't seem to go all the way through. No serials or other stamps visible on the stock other than the small ones on the front of the wrist area. Lots of chatter on the stock and I don't feel it has been sanded. Nice phosphate finish overall on metal parts to include magazine and sight hood. Cleaning rod is a late war phosphate finished and unnumbered piece that I acquired from another forum member here as the rifle did not have one as acquired.
The ZF4 and mount are legitimate and in overall nice shape. The mount is most interesting in that it is also a late Walther mount which is also unserialized. The optic is pretty clear and only slightly hazy. The only negative I have noted regarding the mount is that the teeth on the inside of the locking lever are worn which allows the lever to slip on the bolt leading it to be a bit loose. There is no damage to the tensioning bolt or any other part so if the lever could be repaired or replaced it would be perfect. Still mounts on the rifle securely just fine and displays well in any case. The leather/wood lens cover is something I added later and is an original piece but seems to be made to fit with a sun shade installed and has one rivet pulled through.
I know just enough about these to be dangerous but am admittedly far from an expert, so if any of you all could please share your opinions/observations on this rifle I would be most appreciative. I would also like to get an idea of its overall value as I have had trouble trying to place it, particularly with the unserialized mount which I am told adds some value. Just to throw out a number so you all can tell me I'm smoking crack-- does $8k sound unreasonable (high or low)?
I've tried to take as many detailed pictures as possible and the best way I could figure to upload them were in two Imgur albums I will link below. There are a lot of photos in there but if there's anything else anyone would like to see please just let me know and I can always take some more.
