Added a new rifle today, ax 40

I picked up a excellent condition, matching, ( with exception to the bayonet lug), ax 40. I have never had a k98 with finish as perfect as this including the metal, wood and cartouches. I imagine most of the wear was postwar transport and storage through the years. Some dried cosmoline at the wood edge I still need to attend to. Has some waffen 4 on a few parts that I have found. The front site is cut for a hood, appears to not have had one installed. Barrel channel date code is "3 41" so this rifle was produced and delivered in early 41. Been looking for a nice Erma for years to add to my collection, finally ...
I can add more details and photos, tomorrow. Here is some interior snap shots this evening.

Killer rifle. Looking forward to more pics. Leave the grease alone! Its probably the original Waffenfett. Love seeing it intact on guns.

By the way, your stock date code is 3 41 40. 3rd day, 41st week, 1940.

Was this the one up in NY ? I was watching it, didn’t bid though. Best Erma AX code condition I’ve seen, literally looks like it just came off the factory rack. Wood is near perfect.
These are really hard to find in good condition.

Great rifle. Flat or cupped butt plate? I had an "n" block with '41 dated barrel, cupped and numbered BP....

A few more photos.

Real beauty ya got there. Stampings and bluing look great. Aren't the ax code rifles tougher to come by?

These seem to be among the most finely finished rifles of the Nazi era. I noticed on mine the quality of the buff and blue is outstanding. Really deep and dark blue. That factory took a lot of pride in these. Congrats!

As RyanE pointed out your stock was made on Wednesday October 9th, 1940.

Hello, thanks for the thoughts and comments. Concerning the laminate dating convention, I am fully up to speed with it, however physically reviewing the stock internally, it appeared after the "3 41" to be a 3 digit number. So I glossed over it and really should not have, my fault. When looking at the photo, I can make out the "40" and something else beyond, supplier code or?

Thank you, Jeff

Laminate supplier code would/should be there. Maybe Br? It's hard for me to make out.
