Advice on Yugo Capture "M98?"

I've been researching Kar 98ks for some time ahead of purchasing and I know the story on the Yugoslavian M48. I can recognize the differences between these and true Mauser Kar98ks pretty easily. However, something that still has me confused is alleged German-made Kar98ks that were captured by the Yugoslav army and put back into service after grinding the German markings off. (Correct me if I'm wrong at any point). As I understand, the difference between the designation M98 and M48 would be the origin of production.

I'm currently looking into one of these captured rifles. The seller claims it's from a German factory and scrubbed of German markings. Looks to have an early model nose cap with possibly late war front sight. I believe the Yugos made M48s with the early German H nose cap design but late war resembling everything else. There is a stamp on it saying “PREDUZECE44” and a Yugoslav crest. Does anyone know the story of these, if they are in fact German-made, and whether the $1200 he's asking for is reasonable for something like this?

I know an un-scrubbed German version in good condition is worth much more. I don't want something as a purist collector. I just want something with an action that operates smoothly, as these are known for. If the markings being scrubbed devalues it, that's fine. I don't want it for resale. All things considered, is this a fair price? Thanks in advance.

Nah, too much money for too little rifle, IMO. It has been refinished post war, sling band has loop on wrong side of stock & is missing the band spring. Stock appears sanded pretty hard, not sure it’d hold up even as a shooter. (look at area of recoil lug, it should be somewhat recessed)

1200 is insane. Its worth half that maybe. Most serious collectors wouldn't want something like this given that the original manufacturer markings have been scrubbed. In addition, the bolt is in the white. This should be blued on k98ks, even on the Yugo reworks.
Thanks, I appreciate the input. Not to stray too far from the Yugo topic of this thread, but still relevant: In your opinion, how much should I pay for a Portuguese contract k98k in good condition? I was thinking of keeping my cap at 2500 for that

Yep, I remember this shipment. The local shop (which did a lot of online sales) had a number of them in. I picked up two, sold one and kept the other.

$2500 is high end for a Port 98k, we're talking all matching and excellent condition. You can get them in decent but not perfect condition right now for $1200ish from various places online.

Thats exactly what i ended up getting. I got an all matching one in great condition for 2300. I'm pretty content with it.

The M48 is based on the Model 1924 FN Mauser and has a shorter bolt (same extractor) than the standard 98 action of most other 98 Mausers.
FN set up the factory and it took a few years for the Serbs to get things running but the 1924 was a good rifle. Post war all the 1924 rifles were rebuilt with new barrels and classified as the Model 24-47 as in Model 1924 rebuilt in the 1947 program
The Yugo reworked German K98ks are reclassified as Model 98-48 meaning the K98k rifle refurbished in the Yugoslav 1948 rebuild program.
PREDUZECE44 was the factory/refurb shop that did the rebuild The only German stamps remaining are (usually) on the right side of the rear site base
These have been re-barreled with a Yugo barrel and are usually good shooters. They removed the sites and reinstalled them on the new barrel
$1200.00 wow that is insane. $5-600.00 OK I would not pay more than $400.00.
Ditto on the Port being high but of course condition will dictate price to an extent
As always IMO
