Thanks Alden for this really rare opportunity to own this sealed 300 round pack of October 15th 1938 SMKH 8mm ammo. From the book it says this wasn’t formally adopted until 1939, it’s amazing that this stuff never got used or opened during the war. I know the black tip looks cool but the pre 1939 stuff has to be the rarest of all of it. 9E359DE8-446F-47E2-88E8-A64AE87A3801.jpeg9AFB2FF4-38CF-4B46-8A14-7BFB447562C4.jpeg

According to the 7,9 Ammunition book, the SmKH was "reportedly" introduced in 1936-1937. Casings exist with headstamps dated 1935.

Really that’s interesting and thanks for the information. I read from the Kent book on it that it was August 1939 but am still learning a lot.

It was officially adopted in August of 1939, but was in use for a couple years leading up to it's adoption.

Thanks for the information, I’m just glad I was able to get one as early as I did that’s still sealed. Figured this was my only chance unless they are about to drop even more on the market from the importer.

Ironically the lot I just received from Alden contained several boxes of 1935 dated rounds. My assumption is that they were using left over casings from previous production runs of standard ammunition.

The seal is from a repack in 1938. Clips probably were added at that time. The label on the case would probably be over struck with an "I.L." on repack, but not every box or sleeve. Regards, JH

thanks for the information and now I’ll wondering how old the anmo in the sealed repacked case is now.

That’s awesome I got four box’s of the 1940 black tip if I remember and then got one of the two sealed cases he sold. I’m now wondering the date and type that’s in this sealed case now that I know it was repacked in 1938

The information on the sleeve label as well as the individual 15 round boxes within, will be correct. Great care was taken to keep everything correct with this valuable loading during repacking. As I said, probably just clips added. The loading date looks to be legible on the 300 round label. Regards, JH

Thanks and I hope those red painted stripper clips are nice and didn’t get those with the 4 boxes I also got. They all
Ended up being the black projectiles. Very happy with those.

The black bullet(4th variant) would generally come with an aluminum stripper clip unpainted. I have seen some with brass stripper clips. It looks like a lot of the SMKH was reloaded from once fired cases as I've noticed different dated cases and a crazy amount of different dated stripper clips. Earlier variants that had the aluminum clips would often have a red stripe going down the middle/full length of them to denote what they were. I have also seen an unnoted purple stripe version that could just be red paint that turned purple over the years but it honestly looks to be purple paint of some sort.

Quite a few different variations of this stuff.

I have never seen reloaded cases used for the SMK-H. The label will indicate the cases used by: manufacture & lot. Not all loaders made cases, so quite a few possibilities exist. Reloaded cases are also identified on the label, and easy to spot with extra primer crimps from the reloading process. Regards, JH

I was surprised to find a number of the red painted stripper clips in my lot. I think I got something like 8 boxes of them with the first variant rounds.

I have really enjoyed going through all the random ammo I got and researching all of the rarer stuff. Look forward to your next drop of it. Do you have any idea what you will get or is it just random. I was surprised with how much they imported into the country. It’s amazing that much was still stored in this condition somewhere.

I've found this in Waffen Revue n°5.
It says such cartridge was developed during peacetime and the first proposal to use it came in August 1939.
Use is described here: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/use-of-s-m-k-h-ammo-d-luft-4600-manual.47470/
Issuance to troops was stopped in March 1942.
There are 3 variants of packaging, the black tip cartridges are the last variant.

Thanks for the information. I figured now that a batch came in this would be the best time to get information on it.
