So this band was on the wrong rifle but looking at it closer I think it’s a 41-42 Mauser Borgiswalde armorers’ replacement band. No signs of refinish or serial number. Let me know what you think. Has Waa 26.
I have a couple of those. What is the significance?
Will do and and thank you for the education. Not so significant I guess, but depends upon your interests. I myself have always held a fascination with the armory/depot system. In this case, this is a part that would have been in a kit of spares, with an armory near/behind the lines, usually in mobile workshops.
You’d have seen this in parts bins (quite intricate and organized might I add) along with armory bolts, stocks, safeties, etc. I have a ce43 with a Walther replacement butt stock and a JP safety, very neat rifle.
If you have any you’d like to part with, please let me know via PM.
Some Armorer pics:
From which book, gotta picture? Trying my hand at colorizing some of these for a display atm. Interest started with this pic: *Also, in that middle picture of the trailers, zoom into the middle trailer: Looks like a milling machine or drill press. Pretty cool!Wow, awesome pics. The only mobile armory I had seen until now is in the book.
Very cool pictures, what it must have been to see some of these rifles coming back from the line.
I can only imagine what happened to my 43’s original stock to warrant the replacement. The safety (although quite functional) is prone to cracks and breakage, IMO one of the few main weaknesses of the 98k, but that’s a conversation for another thread.
