Bayonet Value

Howdy all,
So since I am new I do not have access to the traders section just yet. I'm looking to get a bayonet for my grandfathers bring back, K98 (all matching serial numbers).
I collect german militaria, but this will be the first bayonet I aquire. I wanted to get your guys opinions on where the market price currently sits around for a matching # bayonet.
Recently I found one on GunBroker that I was bidding on, with an original frog and matching numbers that went to $205. But I see others that go for $75. I know it depends on
condition and maker, but what is a price you guys would currently pay?

From what I've seen, a $75 bayonet is probably mismatched, sharpened, refinished or in rough shape. $200 for matching one in unmolested condition with a frog sounds about right unless it's a rare maker, then the price goes up.

Forum member, BerlinerLuebecker has a 1943 asw, matching S84/98 III that is in excellent condition for sale on the trader. It has a nice 1943 frog on it as well. He wants $200 shipped or best offer for it. I would pm him since you can not get on the trader yet, if you are interested.

Thanks Grimlin! I'll look into it! It seems about the going rate from what I can find. What are your opinions on these online auctions (IE Guntrader, liveauction, ect) for also finding items?

Some times there might be an uncommon or rare find. Most cases not. You will pay more I would think, plus not be sure of the condition. Pictures on most of these sights are not the best and the seller may even hide a flaw. It can be hard to tell if a bayonet has been abused ( sharpened, over cleaned) and reblued, especially with crappy pics. Not all dealers or sellers practice such misdoings but, there are a lot that do. Most of them are just in it for the buck. You have real collectors here and will get an honest and fair deal.

When I started collecting German longarms (c.a. 1980), I wanted to accessorize each rifle with a proper bayonet, sling, etc. If I had a K98k dated 1944 and in 90% condition, I sought out a matching (to itself) bayonet in equivalent (or slightly less) condition to mate with it. Of course the inevitable happened...the bayonets eventually became a collection unto their own...

pwcosol, I have already noticed that happening lol. I was really into SA daggers (and still am). I was in the process of trying to find another one for my collection when my Kar came into my possession. Now that SA Dagger bug is moving into bayonets.
