Happy New Year everyone !

Im new here to the forum and recently picked up a bcd 41 k98

The reason for this post is to learn more about the rifle and see if it's anything special. I've done some research using this forum, and other sources, and learned the basics of the rifle.

What I know so far:
- I know it was made by Gustloff-Werke in 1941
- The majority of the parts are serialized 924
- The stock seems to be force matched to 924 (the 4 is an open style, and when the rifle is broken down and the barrel removed the number 6624 is revealed in the barrel grove)
- The hand guard is mismatched (marked 1864)
- The barrel is marked cXm 27 41 bys (Any information on this would be nice)
- The butt plate is marked with a 28 on the inside
- The end of the stock that is covered by the butt stock is marked 0 11 43 (Any information on this would be nice)
- The trigger guard/magazine body is marked 924 on the bottom but S J 453 with a X looking marking on the inside (see pictures)

Here are the pictures, couldn't attach as many as I had using the forum

Thanks,

Here is an example of what one of these should look like:

The "4" stamp is different. The numbers are stamped in a pretty sloppy way, and show evidence of having older numbers ground off. The finish is weird mottled colors. The numbers on the rear barrel band are upside down. Just lots of stuff here and there.

Is this something what would have been done when the Russians put them back together (Im fairly certain is a capture) or do you believe this is something more recent? And thanks for the information

Happy New Year everyone !

Hello and Happy New Year to you as well.

Finished by GECO, lot code, year (1941) and blank by Ruhrstahl in Witten.

- The end of the stock that is covered by the butt stock is marked 0 11 43 (Any information on this would be nice)

Date code. I screwed this up last time so... Day, Week, Year. I think? Some rifles it's in the barrel channel and a laminate code is under the butt.

Maybe this gun was a russian capture at one time, but I'm not seeing the "X" mark on the receiver. Maybe it was, but its not original at all. I think this was done by someone trying to make money. Perhaps it was some dude in his basement, perhaps it was a company trying to sell prettied up guns, but this isn't military. I see no markings that indicate to me that it was rebuilt by any country or for any country. If it was sold to you as original matching WW2 German, you should try and get your money back.

Anyone else have differing views?

I did notice 924 is electro penciled on the bolt and bolt sleeve, which lead me to believe it was a RC. The gun was neither being sold as original matching nor did I buy it as a collectors item, just wanted something fun to shoot and the added history was a bonus, so as long as it shoot well I'm happy. Thanks for all your help
