What do you guys think of this one?

The sales blurb:

GERMAN Model 98k Mauser bolt-action 8mm rifle # 9842 with SINGLE RUNE atop chamber manufactured at the MAUTHAUSEN CONCENTRATION CAMP under the supervision of Steyr-Daimler-Puch (code bnz 4) in 1944 especially for the dreaded Nazi SS. An all original MATCHING non-import rifle with stamped barrel bands and otherwise all milled parts. Bore is mirror-bright and very strong. All Nazi markings clear and not pinged. Stock is laminated with red phenolic resin and is pristine. Authenticity of SS markings ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED! Includes cleaning-rod and locking-screws, as well as unusual web-sling marked with K98 and gcq 44 manufacturer's code (Heinrich Jung & Sohn, Halver, a company which is still in business today). Very rare, authenticity absolutely guaranteed, a once in a lifetime opportunity. PHOTOS . . . $3500. C&R

The sling is a fake and the pics aren't good enough to make any real call. The bolt nos. seem to be OK, but who knows with those pics. If that is Kroh / Empire, and that rifle is humped, it wouldn't be the first humped SS rifle he's sold. He's hated me for years as a result of me calling out a high priced "single rune" humper he sold and had to take back and refund as a result. He did take it back and refund, to his credit, but I got some 3 am profanity laced email tirades for my trouble. I think Farb is on his hate list for calling out another humped "SS rifle".

probably bad..

it's another one to close to call.. Weather it falls into the ss contract or not it's hard to determine from those photos.. The stock is wrong or has been replaced.. Large E/small H on the stock wouldnt be there on an ss rifle..Might be a bnz4 no letter Army ?? Bnz 4's and 44's are harder to spot for me than bnz43's

Also if all the markings are whited in, I see a dot on the right side of the receiver.. Either e/77 or e/623 But more than likely e/77 I'd say it more than likely would be blank on and ss contract rifle..

Didn't the E/H start showing up on late SS contracts, or am I wrong on that?

You're correct on that. My bnz 4 single rune is e/H stock marked and the stock is matching. At one time I had that rifle's twin, about 300 nos. off, and it also had the e/H.

again..

not my strong point outing legit bnz4/44 ss guns...I guess I'll stick just to 43 dated examples..
I like the rune.. It has the multie strike aplication that some have...

Yes; a legit single rune can bring 3K+++

Well as you can see my flip flopping on this must mean i'm from massatwoshittsss..

i always wondered how the "guaranteed markings" deal worked. you dont need any evidence to return it? If you do, what counts as evidence? Your opinion? Some other collectors?

The first rifle I called out he contested because I was just some internet punk and he was the great funshow God of the K98k. I posted the pics from the buyer and pointed out what was humped. He accepted return and refund, but hated me for it. I believe Farb called out a second one, and it was discussed and the issues pointed out. I believe he refunded that time as well. The pics of this rifle are insufficient to make a determination. However, nothing jumps out as bad from the pics, though I would need more and better pics to make a buying decision. We have plenty of examples of bnz 4 rune rifles to know what an original should look like.

He doesn't like me as well. Not sure why, I walk by him at the shows and he has no clue who I am..

Whats the rule when you see that white shite??

Single Rune

I did ask seller about this rifle and he says the floor plate and all bolt parts are numbered. The bands are not numbered. He does not know if the stock is numbered or matching as the rifle has not been apart. This numbering sequence does not fit the standard profile for a 44 BNZ rune. Is that correct? With the bands unnumbered it is possible the stock(unless you can take it apart and look) or bands could be a replacement. Is that correct? If the stock does not come apart then I am not sure about the guarantee. I am not being critical, but stating facts as I see them. I do not have a single rune to compare this rifle to. Thanks.
