Bolt Markings

Is there any explanation why a bolt with numbers matching the action and barrel, should also have an electro pencilled number on it?

Thought electro pencilling was something the Russians did, yet this rifle has matching numbers and is certainly priced that way, reputable dealer. It's 660, 1940, g/29 40, walnut stock with serial number and eagles in wood. Haven't yet viewed it.
Thank you.

It is definitely a Russian capture characteristic, so I would be interested in seeing all the other marked and numbered parts on the rifle to make a full assessment. It would be unusual to have an R/C gun with all of its original parts and stock, but hey rules are made to be broken!

Thanks gents, mystery solved. Went to see the "reputable" dealers rifle and it's as Russian capture as it could possibly be!! A bargain at $1500.
Oh well...keep looking.

Something I read sometime back, can't remember where, is that when your dealing with military rifles of 'yesteryear', especially K98k's, is that when you think you've got them figured out, along will come something that throws all you've read, understood, learned, etc about a particular rifle out the window and you have to start your research all over again. Have had that happen many times esp with the K98k and the 03 Springfield to some extent. Sure glad we have the Mauser 98 books from Mike and Bruce, really happy that I have Volume II on the shelf now-will really help in that research.
