Bsw 1937

Last night I went to the back of my safe and pulled out this !937 BSW K98. It is one of my older ones that I have . On first look , I noticed a front sight cover, and laminated stock with a cupped but plate. I had never noticed these changes. The rifle is totally matching including the trigger guard screws. It was missing a front barrel band which I put one on. My question is , did the front sight get modified or am I looking at a barrel replacement? I realize that the stock is a replacement. Any markings I should be looking for? I,m sorry for no pictures , but I,m challenged with pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Banjomike

Front sight hood you mean? Could have just had the base cut for a hood. Is there an eagle/4 proof on the front of the base? Serial number last two digits on the blade? Not necessarily a barrel replacement. Barrel should have e/4 proofs and serial number on it. If not then it is more than likely. The laminate cupped stock has no place on a 37' bSw. But as you may expect, I'm going to say photos are the only true way to help.

Very possible that the sight was just cut when the rifle went in through some kind of repair/inventory. Or it could be a replacement barrel. If the barrel font is identical to that on the receiver including suffix (if applicable) and has e/4 proofs probably pretty safe it’s the factory barrel.

1937 bsw

The front sight has a #37 on it.The barrel is marked with a large 7 followed by 39 RU and 3 waffen amps. The stock is serial numbered to the rifle with a possible T or P along with BYF. The rifle is not a POS , but this rifle has been there. No markings on the butt plate. Thanks again. Banjomike

Sounds like a Geco barrel, so a re-barrel, the waffenamts should be e/26. Typically, though not always, a Geco trademark or cxm is before the lot (your 7), though a 1939 dated barrel would not have a cxm, too early for their ordnance code.

From the sounds of it the rifle is not factory original, but could be authentic to the war (or not... w/o pictures or an extremely detailed datasheet, impossible to say)

Also, I am in Manchester. Have 8 or 9 bSw's myself. Two of them being 1937's. Good to know there is a bSw neighbor around.

Yes we know you own 20% of the rifles and parts that are known in the U.S made by BSW! Save some for the rest of us!

Boy what would happen if I found an all matching 1936 BSW for sale and I bought it. You wouldn't hate me would you mowzerluvr?

Percentage is on the rise, I recently added another rifle and a dozen e/4 parts.. lol. And no, I'd have an autographed photo of you and the rifle on my wall.
