Bubba the Hut Strikes Back on a 41 and 42 byf!!

Recently bought 2 byf's - a 41 and 42. 41 is all matching #s. But, the goof cut the stock in front of the action and at the lower band, plus whittled one band width's worth of wood to set the band farther back. I would like to repair the stock, anyone have a cut off/broken walnut stock? I also need the lower band, bayo lug and spring with the right serial #s if possible plus a wlanut HG that can be broken as I want to splice the serial #d one back to the right length. Here are a couple pics. The stock piece in the picture is off a Turk, in worse case I'll use it to repair, but there will be a lot more work involved. Serial # 753 f

Also bought a byf 42 from the same guy that came from the same bubba. He took the barrel off with a pipe wrench and scratched the hell out of the barrel at the sight to the receiver. Guy I bought it from put a Swede military stepped -06 barrel and sporter stock on it. I am taking those off, cleaning up the barrel and reinstalling it. I have a 41 dated ex Russian marked laminated stock to use. Will be looking for bands and maybe a stock as well for it. At the smiths right now so I don't have pics or the serial # on me. It is also a 3 digit single letter suffix. This would likely still be an H lower band?

I really appreciate any help. I have lots of spares to trade if you have something I can use. I know the 42 will be harder to find all the correct parts but I think the 41 can be made back into a decent piece.

Geez, too bad about these mods... good luck with your restorations!

Your title made me laugh, but Yuengling might have been a major factor, as well.

Something found...

I recently received a broken Port 41 contract stock, the butt was busted clean off and there was still some electrical tape on the wrist .

So, I have my stock guy waiting for that - I can still use a front band eagle 655/serial 753 or 53 as well as a bayo lug and band spring and lastly a walnut handguard. I am ok with no serial #s on the parts, would still like proofs if possible. A nice unmarked part would work as well for now.

Stock repaired

So my wood guy called me earlier this week - the graft has taken hold and not been rejected :biggrin1:. I will pick the rifle up in a week or so and put some pics up. He said it turned out better than he thought and for all the hours spent to do the repair only $100. I need to mix some stain up to match the red/brown on the original half. Any suggestions as to what Mauser originally used to stain the stocks in this period? I will then use BLO over top of it. And I sourced an unmarked walnut HG to replace the shortened original one.

As you probably already know the blo will darken the wood somewhat. You might want to try a few coats in the barrel channel of the new wood to see how much the blo alone will darken the new wood. I did a repair on a red laminate at the rear of the action and the blo alone did a fair job of matching the original stock. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1364059739.838979.jpg
