Some of you may have seen this one already, but here it goes anyway. This is an M43 German tunic belonging to a gefreiter (lance corporal) in the nebeltruppen (smoke troops). It was found in the attic of an abandoned home in Poland which was part of the former fortress Breslau, Germany. Fortress Breslau was one of the last major strongholds of the crumbling 3rd Reich. In researching the story of this tunic I came across the gentlemen who had originally found it who stated that it was crumpled into a ball in the attic full of rodent nesting. There was a hole in the back that was repaired. This tunic is covered with signs of combat use with soiling around the collar and the end of the sleeves where the young mans skin came in contact with the tunic repeatedly over its career. Enjoy.
