Hello
can you help me dating that barrel 44 D 821 with byf 1 and serial number on receiver 18052 no letter block

Is the number on the barrel correct to the number on the receiver ? is it a rework ?

thanks

muse

I assume the receiver is marked byf44, if so yes the bbl is correct to the receiver.

Likely byf45 under mounts and is that a turret mount hiding in the picture?

Bon, Muse, je pense qu'il est temps de montrer l'intégralité de cette pièce à priori intéressante, non?
:biggrin1:

Il y a de plus en plus de Français par ici.

If these two things are true:

1. The barrel code is 44D821
2. The serial number is 18052 no block

Then the rifle would almost certainly be a byf/45, as Döhlen blanks, with this lot and date, do not show up earlier than the byf/44 "i" block, and even that is early for most 800 lots, which do not become common until the "L" block.

more pictures K98 LOW TURRET

Hi all
more pictures about that K98

in fact barrel number seems to be 44 D 321 instead of 821. WAa 135 on the right side of the receiver.
serail number on the receiver: 18520 no block, or letter block (do not know because of sharpnel). Waa 135 not on the right side of the serial number but just under.

LOW TURRET with a W at the back of the front turret. Rear turret with WAa 135.
What is the meaning of that W ???
Matching AJACK scope (rifle number 18520). serial number 45031 +.

please give me your advice regarding dating of that rifle.

thanks a lot.

I'm not an expert on snipers, but the sniper WaA under the serial is bad IMO.

I can't tell if that mark next to the receiver is an "l" or just a scratch. I'm going to say byf45.

Looks like a scratch to me, or maybe a small shrapnel hit.

Merci pour les photos, Muse.
Avez-vous la crosse ou d'autres pièces qui pourraient nous aider à dater cette belle pièce?
Est-il toujours en calibre d'origine, comme je l'espère?

By the way, I'm surprised to see such a late low turret mount. Can this be the indication that this is not a factory made rifle, but an "armourer" one instead?

Low turret

Hi
No I do not have the right stock.

Even if the WAa 135 is not on the right of the serial number but under, I think this is not a fake or a rebuild. The screws are wright. There is a number 1 inside the front mount....
There is also a W at the back of the front mount.

what does that mean ???? armourer one instead of mauser ?????

low turret rifles are supposed to have been produced until beginning of 1944 not the end of 44.

there is no notching on the front of the rear mount, what is usually found on high turret mount, not on low turret mount. but there is a Waa135.

There are visible white marks of tin between the mount and the receiver, means the way german solder mount to receiver.

I am quite shure there is a letter block under the sharpnel... i or L

Muse

I'm sure experts will correct me if I'm wrong, but from the end of 1943, the serial number of the rifle was stamped on the spherical parts of the front mount, like on high turret mounts, for factory rifles.
Yours is stamped like an earlier low turret, so was certainly build by an armourer.
