I will also be posting a G41 ac43 no letter gun and a K43 ac44 late year gun eventually, both have sanded stocks. All serial numbers i can find match on this rifle also including mount, the scope is original but not to this rifle and the scope bands are repos. The mag is a gcb K43 with a "k" marked floor plate. The stock also does not have anything inside of it.

+1. Yes please do. I am a little suspicious that this is legit. This early of a rifle would likely have a mount numbered a different way. But better pictures would help.
After better pics, I believe our suspicions are correct. The engraving is not what one typically sees on wartime numberings.
This appears to be post war engraved, In my opinion.

Brian and I came to the same conclusion, Larry Vickers‘ rifle came out of California in 2019 I believe. Matt also brought up the issue of the placement of the numbers on the mount. They are a little low, this mount shares that aspect as well

I saw that originally and had the same thoughts.. The font is the same and probably done by the same person.. Wrong font and to narrow of a tool bit used.. Sorry..

Some one did indeed find an earlier square edge mount and ruined it.. The bands and screws added and the scope I way late...

Just because it’s square doesn’t mean it is an early mount. Square mounts were used late also.

Besides the numbers being wrong, a rifle this early would likely have a dual numbered mount.

Well, to keep things simple.... I typically refer to square edge as early type and round edge as late.. As that's how they appear on rifles typically.. Same with scopes they were used in a linear serial range. Sure there are exceptions but, I typically don't like to fall into the trap of exceptions..

It would appear from looking at originals that most (if not all) early mounts were square shaped. However, square mounts were used until the end along with round. It is possibly that there were two different makers of G43 scope mounts. One company that made them square and one that made them round. Or perhaps they had several mounts left over from an early production run and these were all square.

I would not say that scopes were used an in linear serial range. War time production is not first in first out. A mid to late mount with an "early" scope can be correct. In addition, the reason they stopped putting the scope serial number on the mount is because they found them to be the most common thing that broke. Many early mounts likely had to have later scopes added to replace early broken scopes.

Another gun show carnie barking piece of wisdom that needs to die is that dow scopes were only used on BLM rifles. There is no basis for this claim. There is no reason why Walther or BLM would not use any manufacturer of a Zf4 scope on their rifles. Sure we see trends, but the scopes are basically identical across makers and can be used the same. Not like a Single Claw scope that requires a shorter scope for clearance to be removed.

Brian K. knows more about G43s then anyone I know. I'd be curious to hear his thoughts.

I don't think they are really early or late either. You see both used, at least in the later half of production, and from what I can see, it certainly looks like they are two separate forging dies in use and not some change to the machining. I'd guess there were two different suppliers using their own dies, with the "round" edge maker coming on later, maybe to support the growing demand for mounts, but the "square" maker was still making them too.

Sad to hear about the mount being a fake but good to know, does anyone have any comment on the rifle itself?

the rifle itself appears fine.. Fairly early E block so whoever matched up the mount did it appropriately with a square type mount so they had some knowledge. Using a round edge far more common un numbered would have been a huge red flag. The stock has been sanded cleaned then re-stained which is pretty common of rifles.. the mount isnt fake.. the numbering is.. mount is real.. scope is also way to early for that rifle also..
