Peter, if you happen to be looking at this stuff I could use some help translating it. The man was listed in the volksbund, KIA 25.01.1944, from what I can tell he qualified with the K98, P.08, MG 15 MG 34 I do not know what the other stuff means or how to figure out his unit. There was a pic of him in Russia dated 04.10.1943 in the flap. I have attached a bunch of scans. Thanks George

Hello George,

What we see here is a textbook example of a second issue "Zweitschrift" Wehrpass, when the WP was lost it was replaced by a new example, in this case the clerk copied the information from the Wehrstammbuch in the new WP, so you can see a lot of similar handwritten text in these examples, proof that it was filled in in one go, also on the cover or the firstpage should be written: Zweitschrift.

Hans Meyer served in the RAD in 1938 in July 1939 his military service started as a conscript, he was assigned to the Luftwaffe.
After some basic training and training in operating a search light he ended up airfield (guard) units. I can't see any Flak artillery service in this WP.
That he as a young man ended up in a non combat unit must mean that the army leadership didn't find him fit enough to serve in a combat unit.
Anyway in December 1942 the German army needs more and more soldier for the Easternfront and the standard to get transfered to a combat unit is lowered, after spending some time in a LW replacement unit he is in January assigned to the 3th company of Luftwaffe Jäger Regiment 23 (LW infantry).

PS. The finacial value of second issue WP's is alway much less then that of first issue example, WP collectors aren't really intrested in these.

- Almost no doubt about it.

Every WP tells a story and George also this one does to, and if you like the story it is a nice addition to your collection.
BTW the document that you have posted together with the WP is a birthcertificate.

Hi George,

From what I can see on the scan, it seems that the birthcertificate is made up in 1938, this was the year he was called to the Wehrbezirkskommando (local draftoffice) to get his military service documents sorted out and to be checked by a doctor.
You comme accross birthcertificates more then once in this kind of groupings; I think they had to bring a birthcertificate to the draftoffice, when I enlisted in the army I had to bring one to.
