Great Weekend at DACA Show, Lots of Neat Scores...

So this past weekend was the last DACA show at Market Hall in downtown Dallas...they put it on in conjunction with a decent militaria show promoter, so there were 300 tables of really good militaria...like a mini SOS, with quite a few guys who do the SOS...

Scored some really great stuff for the collections....I'll start with three...

A (in my experience) really hard to find actual WWII German gas sheet, tropic/arktik, in the gdn Tp marked pouch...have a few pouches, never found an original sheet...

A "tropical" A-frame, again, one of those things I didn't think I might get a chance to own...

And a mint from a crate unissued bread bag, with the strap inside...

I have a bunch more to post, and will as I get time!

I really like the A-frame. Those must have had a poor survival rate- they are kind of pointless- and I suspect most soldiers threw theirs away soon after reaching the field.

Well, I guess it does give you a place to strap a few things on, but certainly not a great solution! They would have been much better off with a small ruck that clipped onto the Y's...

Also picked up an telegraph key, three nicely marked tent pegs, and two excellent RG-34's, complete...the guts don't all match, but they are all marked early pieces (oilers, chains, and spoons)...these were $35 each!

Actually, those a-frames are pretty useful. When I re-enacted I used one, and it was a handy way to carry a zelt, blanket, mess kit and the a frame bag which held a rifle cleaning kit and extra socks and stuff. You could also strap other things to it as needed. You could then take the whole thing loose from your y-straps as a unit without losing anything.

I’d be surprised if that one was original. Some repros we used in the field looked legit after a while. Check it against known good ones. The a frame bags are hard to find.

The one I had before this is from my re-enacting days too...its on my combat mannequin in the room...

They held those items, not much else, a little sparse...I don't think I'll strap the stuff to this one, although I do have everything to go onto it, including an original A-Frame bag...but they are kind of neat just to see un-laden...
