When I openned up this years copy of Guns n Ammo "Surplus Firearms" Edition, I don't know if I was laughing; like when I watched that NRA K98 Sniper video or crying because of the mainsteam misinformation about K98s.
The magazine featured firearms of the Allies and Axis during WWII. Some of the articles are great but the article on the K98 was written purely on Mitchell's Mausers (probably by Mitchell) and used their rifles as examples of what a collector K98 should look like. The magazine praised everything from the bolt in the white to the matching numbered stock (RC numbering on the left side of the butt stock). I loved their description of the many rare death heads and SS markings that Mitchell has available for collectors, including the double SS markings on the bolt????? I think they were talking about the double acceptance stamp/waffen amts that I could see in the picture, but I am sure Mitchell's convinced them that these were special SS markings. Who knows, maybe we are wrong? It is written so it must be true????
The article even went as far as desribing the difference between an RC and a Mitchell's Mauser, discussing the laters increased collectability.
Then to top it off Mitchells had a full page advertisement after the article selling their rare, unique and collectable K98's.
I hate it when they get things this wrong, Guns n Ammo is almost warrented a turd alert for this epic fail.
