Gustoff KKW My first German Trainer

This is my first post. I have been reviewing The Small Bore Forum and would like to post a photo of the Gustoff KKW I purchased this week. I feel it is in exceptional condition, only minor handling marks in the stock and hand guard. I would rate the bluing and areas in the white at 98% or better. It does have a mis-matched bolt and missing the cleaning rod. I believe it to be post 1940 as it has eagle/n proof marks. The S/N is in the 266XXX range. I hope to get it to the range next week to see how it's accuracy is.

That is a nice example of a late Gustloff kkw, perhaps 1944? Production ended in the low-mid 270k range. For posting from photobucket the fourth share option will work. Have fun at the range; be ready for some staring. :)
 
Be very careful, KKW's can be highly addictive!😜. They are a hoot to shoot. Now you have to get an example from BSW, Mauser, and Walther. I will collect training rifles from any country but I like the German and American ones the best.
 
I have been having trouble posting photos here from my Photobucket account. Not sure why. I managed to take the KKW to the range today for it's first tryout. I was impressed. Twenty five yards using Federal HV bulk ammunition got me a 4 round group I could cover with a dime, but about 2" high. I'm thinking standard velocity ammunition may solve that. The trigger is amazing for a military style trainer. I would guess it has about a 2 pound pull. There is a noticeable click before the shot breaks. It is like using a set trigger. The triggers on my Lee Enfield and Springfield trainers are a much heavier pull.

I am more than satisfied with my first KKW and it may not be my last. I have spent several hours in the past 2 days reviewing about 20 pages of trainer / KKW posts. It's a wealth of information. I'm really glad I stumbled onto this forum.

I took my Walther KKW (described in earlier post here) to the range with a bunch of different ammo.

I put in ammo that had failed to fire in other guns to see if it would shoot.
Out of about 40+ rounds all but 2 actually fired and as stated with the Gustloff a bit high.

There must be some reason why these KKWs will set off ammo better than my other 22s.
Anyone know why?
 
LTC and. Wulfman, what size bull on your targets? The bull on a HJ target I have is 4 3/4 inches in diameter and with a 6 o'clock hold with the sights should put the point of impact just over 2 inches.

Yes, 6 0 clock hold from a sandbagged rest. Windage alignment is almost dead on at 25 yds.

I was shooting at a 3/4 inch dot at 25 yards (I was on a combat range doing other stuff and brought the KKW along to test).
I was elbo resting on a range table and was not shooting for recorded accuracy but given the method was nonetheless impressed.

I would use this for a backyard varmint gun.
It was shooting a bit to the right and I have adjusted the front site but have not retested as we have had monsoon like rains in FL and the ranges are mud fields

It is too valuable (being a Walther) to use as a shooter but keep forgetting to list it on a Sunday night on GB
Its not eating anything so no rush either
