Currently restoring a late war production ND hkp62 M42 shell with original parts.
Got the shell for a reasonable price in current market, but it had been post war repainted by most likely Finland or the like.
I was able to successfully remove 95% of the post war paint fairly carefully, surfacing roughly 70% of the original "pea green" feldgrau it seems was commonly applied with the hkp firm.
Sourced an original steel hardware liner, and steel pins.
Now, an original chin strap would be fantastic, for a good price. Keeping in mind to keep the prices down in regards to not invest more money in a restoration job than the helmet would fetch finished, being a 'run of mill' ND M42, restored.
Original chinstraps can reach a premium! ($100-$250). Post war manufacture can be near identical, but at 1/4 of the cost.
