Hi Guys,

I'm interested in a K98k Norvegian Capture in original 8X57 adopted by Norvegin Marine Army that according with available info did not change the barrel in 30-06 as usual for the K98k captured in Norway.

I have a problem with the receiver where it seems indicated 237 and 1936 and this does not match with the standard code because the 237 was adopted only in 1939. The right code should be S/237 according also with the pictures reference setcion of the forum.

I have asked the seller further detailed pictures to have a close look. The rifle in any case should have mismatchting bolt and stock.

Do you have any idea? Is the 237 code consistent with 1936 codifications?

I have also this info for the 1936 production (ref:www.ycgg.org): serial number range from 7560 to 1463a for no more than 15.000 rifles.
On the picture I saw 9449 or something like this but it is not possible to identify the letter.

Thanks Ardenne

Are you absolutely sure it's dated 1936? It's tough to tell from that single photo of the top of the receiver, but that doesn't sound right.

Besides the incorrect factory code, the firing proofs are not correct for a 1936 either. In 1936, the Weimar eagles were still in use.

It's more likely that it's a 1938 or 1939. (The "237" code was adopted partway through 1938.)

I have received best pictures of the receiver and now it seems a 1939 production; so this is a 237/1939 with a laminated stock.

Receiver:

k98K_237_39_KNM 02.jpg

Serial code:

k98K_237_39_KNM 01.jpg

Nice combination of wartime and postwar markings. Wartime German markings, postwar Norwegian Navy markings (KNM = Kongelige Norske Marine/"Royal Norwegian Navy"), and even a post-1951 West German nitro proof mark (the "Eagle over N", below the KNM).
