Just happened across this, unsure if it has been posted before. Link below to a YouTube video with footage of a GI armed with HTS, still image of which graces the cover of Volume III Kriegsmodell. Unknown if this is actually film from the village of Dachau as stated or stock footage simply used for the documentary. Area of interest begins a bit after 7:30 ......

This footage stirs memories of my great uncle. He served in the 11th Armored division. They liberated Mauthhausen, Gusen and committed war crimes against WH prisoners in reprisal of Malmady. Patton made that go away too. Certain situations are exceptional and so are certain leaders. He had scrap books no one was allowed to see. Bad times, great men.

To answer your question Yes this is were the photo came from well not this exact Video but another one called Embedded 1945 but it was the Town/City of Dachau that this footage was filmed . I found this footage and told Mike/Mrfarb about it and he captured a still photo to use as Kriegsmodell Book Cover

Sure enough. At the time it was the only period photo I'd ever seen of a Kriegsmodell - since then I've seen a few others, one of the 2nd SS surrendering shows a guy in one of the vehicles with one, my feeling is an swp45, dot44 or dou45. The main training and barracks for the 2nd SS was in Prague, near the main depot for the Heer.
